I always figured they placed the display to one side to more easily accommodate a GPS or mobile phone attachment on the left side, but that's just a guess. I too would prefer the FZ-07 center display. I would also have preferred a traditional analog tach, which I feel is more easily read when going like a bat out of hell.
Close... the first thing I looked at was where I could fit a GoPro that didn't also show my clock.. I helmet and chest mount now but have to put a GPS phone mount on to block my clocks.. ;) On '01 a bar mount is next to useless because of the twins vibration but im looking forward to mounting on the '09 and getting it off my body.

I just installed a GPS today and thought you might like to see pictures. Since I expected to use it only for longer rides outside of town, I was originally thinking of using a magnetic holder on top of the tank, but to try it out, I just taped it down to the tank. I did not like that one bit; I had to look so far down to see it, I lost sight of traffic in front of me. The handle bar mount is much better. Also, I originally thought I should wire it to the accessory connector and let the key turn it on and off, but again, since I only expect to use it occasionally and did want the converter and wiring in place at all times, I used a switch to control it. It's a low profile rocker switch and not noticeable when turned off. The led should alert me if I do accidentally turn it on when not using the GPS.

The first picture was taken from a seated position on the bike and the second shows where I mounted the switch.

I like the Garmin set up, nice and big, I would miss that switch, so I always just turn mine off when I shut the bike off. The screen prompts to stay on battery or shut down. I use mine on a V-Strom
and I like the speedo feature on the Zumo it is more accurate.

Ride Safe.

Great more candy and $$$$$$

Those GPS's look really nice.

Sure could have used one this week bringing the Connie home from Idaho. Had to stop several times to pull out the cell phone and look at the gps on it to finger out where to turn. Then I had to pass all the slow pokes and trucks all over again.

Wow! That's one big GPS.. Can you still see what gear you're in? I find I always like to confirm what gear I'm in when starting off at a traffic light.

Okay guys. I finally did some bike work. Pulled the windscreen to file the cluster bracker for clearance, and found a very simple way to get a few degrees upward tilt on the cluster.

There are 3 screws on the back with rubber grommets in the bracket. Remove all 3 screws and pop the cluster out. Remove the lower grommet from the bracket and slide it onto the post on the back of the cluster. Screw it back on using only the upper 2 screws. So what you've got now is the lower grommet adding a bit of extra height on the bottom of the cluster.

It's a bit tough to see from the pictures but you can tell that the bottom of the cluster has a small gap in the after shot.

Glad I read this thread before purchasing a gauge relocate bracket. I have my RAM ball mounted on the left forward handlebar bolt. Both my GPS/X cradle mounts fit perfectly just to the left of my gauge cluster, tucked in nicely behind the MRA double bubble shield. Pheeeeew :)

The only "issue" I have with mine is the display sits ever so high behind the black area above the tachometer. The numbers are slightly obscured. I'm not a tall person. So, the angle I view it isn't the problem.

the angle is the problem, before I made my own bracket to center and lower the cluster and still have an angle just not as extreme as OEM, with the stock handle bars,etc...I found it hard to read. it felt like everything was in my face, crowded so to speak. now I have Buell clubman bars with the new design cluster bracket. as mentioned before, it centers, lowers, and still has an angle to it. the placement allows clear view of everything on the gauge, now I have no issue viewing the rpm's as this was the hardest to see for me. I'm 5'11" if it matters any, long arms...
