First. Remove the two bolts that secure the CCT in the motor. Use care, so as to loosen them evenly as there will be tension on the spring, pushing the CCT out. Mine were easily removed.

Remove the CCT and gasket, again, my gasket came off very cleanly.

Insert the new CCT, DO NOT REMOVE THE WRENCH THAT IS INSTALLED IN THE CCT IN THE PACKAGE, this will release the spring, and you will just have to compress it again.

Align the gasket so that the ear is pointed inward.

Tighten two CCT securing bolts to approx 7ft/lbs, use a dab of Loctite

FINGER TIGHTEN the CCT wrench until you cannot turn it with your fingertips, then use a wrench to go 1/4 turn more.

Start motor.

You will still hear the cold engine cam chain rattle, it will dissipate in under 10 seconds. Rev the engine to 3-4k several times, if you have a wrench in the adjuster, you will see why... It will adjust it's tension when you do this.

Install cap bolt and washer.

Done.

So no mucking around with TDC/BDC, then huh? Awesome-sounds like a very simple process then . Thanks Fizzer and keep us posted as to the operation of the revision as you accumulate miles on it. Thanks very much for the post. Aloha my friend...

Hey Fizz how does the hex bolt that you supplied in your kit look? Would be interesting to see the condition of the part since installing your kit I have not touched my CCT. Is there any unusual wear on any of the parts?

I'm hearing what I believe is the CCT failing in my bike. It's a buzzing/vibration sound around the 4k rpm mark. I know Fizzer has a fix, but won't that void the warranty if I do it? I took it to the dealer, and they told me it was just the gears breaking in. Of course, the buzzing stopped on the day I had my first service done, but it has since returned... I think I posted this somewhere already, but I didn't know how to subscribe to threads then >.<

It voids the warranty if the dealer sees it installed... Just like any other modification.

There is no more "fizzer kit"

But you can buy an APE manual CCT
I'm hoping to get it taken care of at the dealer, but they haven't been too willing to order the part. Said they wanted to make sure it was what I said it was so they didn't have an unnecessary part sitting there if it was something else. I'm about ready to find another authorized yamaha service place or ask to speak to the service manager there.

i called my dealer again today to see if a new CCT is in yet (after 3 months). He said next week - so here's to hoping that holds.

Mine has been on backorder for 5 weeks now, supposed to have been released from Yamaha for shipping on the 15th. I'm having mine sent directly to me after having grown tired of dicking around with my dealer, I just ordered it online and paid for it myself. Awaiting an email reply from Stadium Yamaha as to current status...

*update* Just received an email from Stadium Yamaha, and the release off backorder has been pushed back(again) by Yamaha to August 6. Not sure if that date also affects those of you who are waiting as well. Curious if this delay is due to demand or production issues, but no one will say. So the waiting continues...

Do you have the part # handy? How much did it cost?

Cost of new CCT and gasket:<$80, not having to wait for a lengthy backorder time and the piece of mind of a(hopefully) correctly functioning CCT: priceless...

I could probably get the APE one quicker, yea? It's frustrating because I work long hours, and they haven't ordered the part yet. They want to check it out for themselves. Basically, I'm going to ride out there for them to say, "Oh yea, you're right. That part will take us 2 months to get".

How likely am I to brake my bike riding it?
