Hey guys I just received an 05 zx6r shock from fleabay. wanted an RR model but couldn't find one after months of waiting so I bit the bullet and got the zx6r model. question is I am about 210lbs with gear, according to racetech the zx6r spring is 8.6, but from all the reading I've done people say its a 9.7. Racetech also says the fz09 stock spring is 10.0. should I swap out the zx6r spring for the fz09 spring? I do like the red color of the zx6r and if it is indeed a 9.7 it should be close enough to the fz spring to make changing it not worth my time.

I've done tons of reading and searching but most info Ive found is for the zx10r or the zx6rr, not a lot on the the zx6r.

also I keep seeing where people are putting much newer zx6r shocks on like 09-12, I though those were a lot longer than the 05,06. If they're the same length I regret buying such an old shock even though its only 10k miles

The stock fz spring is shorter than the stock zx6r spring.

I swapped springs on my zx6r shock. First I cut down a 2" pvc coupler to fit my eibach spring. I didn't really trust that after too long and a buddy of mine machined me a new spacer.

OK so there's no way to run the fz spring without a spacer? I thought from reading
You didn't need one. Did you just use a piece of 2" steel pipe as the spacer?

So I installed the shock yesterday. With both shocks side by side the springs looked to be the same length or within a few mm. I left the stock red spring on the Zx6r shock and with only one thread showing above preload adjuster I'm showing about 50mm static while wearing work clothes. I weight about 215 full gear. I'm going to jack up the preload and see how much it takes to get me to 35mm static when I get off work.
