I installed the BMW Connect app on my recent trip, and it was nothing short of terrible with my loaded GPX files and phone, not to mention that it was a battery hog. It totally messed with my Cardo Packtalk Edge, moving music control from the headset to the bike, using layers of screens to control. I uninstalled it. These apps are a long way from being useful and I don't plan on installing the Yamaha app on my wife's phone with her new bike. I am mounting a Garmin XT on her bike.

that's really usefull feedback and pretty much confirms what we have thought from the start.
a complete waste of an opportunity by Yamaha.

How hard can it be for them to change the interface to something like below.
Is it technically possible for them to implement this in a future firmware update or no chance and no hope?
Also: I read somewhere and it sound plausible that they will update the unit to a bigger screen on a facelift model, if that's true I hope the screen can be retrofitted. There's a huge bezel to be utilized.

Having had the MT09 SP for a few weeks and added most of the bits i want to --- my.mind has been taken back to StreetCross.
So, reloaded the Apps i had dumped, paired the phone to the bike and sat down to figure out how to create a route in the StreetCross App.

I got started fairly easily but using the map to select places is really clunky.
As far as I can see once you decide to pick a place on the map, you cannot get "find petrol station" or whatever assistance.

So picked a stopping place, picked a destination, then picked another stopping place - "before" the first stop place,7 i picked.

Predictably it took me to stop one, back to stop two, then on to the destination.

The App arbritarily gives points a name and you can't edit that name.
So you can get multiple points called the same name if you are routing a rural road.
As far as I can see the only edit function is Delete (and add a new stop after all existing stops).
Stops can only be selected in the correct order or the App just goes back.

Anybody found it easy and useful to use ??

I'm not really following on what you're using to create the route. The Streetcross app itself?

My process is as follows:
  • use kurviger (on a pc is the most easy way but works via the app as well) to create the route (calculate fastest route, not the most curvy, because Streetcross will connect the waypoints the fastest way)
  • export route with "many" extra points to GPX. Streetcross has a max of 14 waypoints or something, so can only be used for short rides
  • open GPX in streetcross and go ride

I don't like streetcross at all, so I switched to OsmAnd on an Android auto screen (50€) and it's awesome. Bigger screen, no waypoint limit and ultra customizable.
The process is comparable, but:
  • export as a track in kurviger
  • open osmand web on a pc, import the track and export the GPX again to get a waypoint file (takes 5 seconds)
  • import route on osmand app on your phone.
The route is 100% the same as the one you planned. OsmAnd picks up the route wherever you are. It's absolutely perfect. Everything can even be done on the go on your smartphone when you're traveling and want a good route from where you are, easy & fast process.

In short: Streetcross has limitations, is too small and routes like crap. Alternatives are way better.

I am by no means an expert on ALL the latest infotainment systems on bikes these days. From what I have seen, they are all lacking. :( Using the Yamaha/Garmin app for navigation on the MT-09 gives you this tiny area of the screen for navigation. If you can make it full screen, I haven't seen a way. o_O One other gripe I have with the MT-09 infotainment controls is that they are NOT backlit, PIA at night

I use a Cardo connected to my iPhone which is mounted to the bars using a Quad Lock mount. I get wireless charging, voice prompts for making and answering calls, voice control of navigation via Google Maps, voice control of my music via YouTube Music, etc. I just haven't seen anything from any of the bike manufacturers that works as seamlessly as a simple Bluetooth headset connected to a mounted phone. I am sure things will get better, but I will stick with my system until they do :)

Why you need a big screen.... Like you you stare at it all the time... All you need are the directions and that works okay.
It's not perfect but does the job.

Not going to mount another screen and clutter the sight.... With a zumo or aliexpress carplay screen.
