so as of yesterday i have been hearing a ticking noise from my bike i can hear it when its just idling and its much louder when the engine is under a load i can hear it best on the right side and not sure what it is i took it to the dealer and had them look at it but the old guy could not hear it at idle and thought i was talking about the clutch basket which is not the noise i hear then he tells me its probably a loose valve which is good for more power so they said just ride it but it does not sound normal to me its really irritating when im accelarating what do you guys think , i know i can be a little weird about noises i think one small tick and its going to fall apart but it dosent sound right to me

i will do thank you guys a lot i just got off the phone with my dealer and they said they have to run the vin or something with yamaha and thats how they will know if it needs the new part??? does that sound right? because I'm going to basically demand that they do something with it because it is really annoying.

I think the dealer checking the VIN with Yamaha is a standard/default thing to do, even if all the bikes of that model qualify. On the other hand, maybe there was a bad batch of cam chain tensioners that are only in a certain range of 09 VIN numbers.

But I'm guessing we all have basically the same part and it will be replaced.

Alexander extended this offer to me today after I reported that the latest part seemed to fix the issue. If you can't get anywhere with your dealer, or they give you the runaround, give him a call or shoot him an email. He has been more helpful than any other dealership guys I have dealt with.

Tell the forum guys to contact me if they need any assistance with their FZ9s.

so i took the bike in today but the old guy there was like oh really are you sure its not just internet hype and i was like wtf no i didn't look it up until i heard it... then he tried telling me that it is normal because the r6s and r1s do it to compensate at higher rpms and i said its not even the same engine the fz doesn't even come close to the same rpms as the supersports so if they try to give me the run around I'm going to take it to that shop that travis said to take it too.

Okay I called my dealership told them about the tick I was hear and gave them the part number. He quoted me $249.00 to get it fixed. I said what about the warranty he said it would not be replaced under the warranty untill yamaha call it a recall. Wtf. Is this right. I have not called Alexander yet.

I don't know this dealer, never heard of this dealer, and would never darken the door of this dealer again if I were you......They, my friend are trying to scam you out of $249. Thousands of warranty items are taken care of every single day....Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Triumph, blah, blah, blah and there aren't recalls on all of that. Sure, some items are widespread enough that a manufacturer will issue a recall, but lets say that the clutch cable broke on your bike (defective)....there ain't no recall for those, but they still qualify under the one year manufacturer's warranty. Your dealer or at the very minimum, the person that told you this, is either a total moron, or a scammer! Either way, run Forest run.........find a new dealer that knows their stuff.........

Rant off...........

Had mine replaced this afternoon in under an hour. The dealership got in what appears to be the 2nd update part. (03 in the part #)

My rattle waited till 2700 miles to really show up. I noticed it before slightly when it was not fully warmed up, but once I revved it above 6k it would disappear. This morning it rattled its A off! Man. But thanks to Travis I was already prepared! I knew what size bolt and nut and what size Allen wrench to use. Travis made an hour job only ten minutes.
All fixed.
Thanks Travis!

just to update, I am new to the forum but have been catching up over the past week... I also have the tick, I stopped by the dealership today and they told me that its a known issue and yamaha is working on a permanent solution and i had them tighten it up. noise is gone hopefully not to return but i did have them order me the revised tensioner and ill take a look and some pictures of the differences while they are putting it in.

The rattle has just showed up on my bike at 1400miles. Think I will wait for them to stop revising the adjuster before taking it in for the fix ... maybe they will issue a recall ... nah, that's just crazy talk.

I've had my "tick" "rattle" whatever you want to call it, for probably better than 400 miles. I talked to my dealer the other day and she is going to order a new one in...part number ending in 03, and I will be getting it installed sometime after I get back from Jennings in early March.
