Axle to Chain Alignment: Motion Pro VS Adjusting Block Markings

So i took off my rear wheel today. and when i wanted to align the rear axle to the chain there was a major difference between the Motion Pro Chain Alignment tool vs the markings on the adjusting blocks. when you align the rear axle based on the adjusting block markings the motion pro tool would indicate that the rear axle is skewed to the right.

So then i tweak both the adjustment nuts so that the motion pro tool aligns with the chain but it gave me these reading that are off (see pictures below) on the axle blocks.

which one should i trust. right now i have it set to where i am going by the motion pro tool. any thought or suggestions? how do you guys do your axle to chain alignments?

I adjusted it with the MP alignment tool, then just to double check, I used a digital caliper and measured from the end of the swing arm to the axle block and each side was within 0.02mm of each other, however the swing arm markings were off by 1 full 'tick mark'.
Yeah, I know, the bike needs a cleaning.

So today I spent a few hours doing a string wheel alignment. The string showed the rear wheel was misaligned to the right which is what the MP tool was showing. Below are photos of my final swingarm markers. Left is between mark 2 and 3 and right is between 1 and 2.
This matches Seawalls markers, also out by about one marker, also misaligned to the right.
The MP is now aligned even with the longer pointer. What I did notice is that to the eye the MP was about aligned but the string alignment was still not spot on.

UPDATE: i bought the pro-fi laser alignment tool and it did confirm that motion pro manual tool is correct. it is misaligned from the factory. the problem with the mp tool is that it is hard to align, you have to focus really hard to the point of stressing your eyes out.

There are 2 different alignments that come into play when you adjust the blocks.

The chain alignment and the rear wheel alignment in relation to the frame and front wheel

The question is which is more important, imo the wheel to the frame is more important as it can affect the handling of the bike. I align this first and then check the chain alignment and as long as it’s close, I leave it like that.

It is rare that both line up perfectly.

If you want a perfectly aligned chain, spin the rear wheel and watch the chain, adjust it until the chain “walks” side to side on the rear sprocket. No special tools required, just remember that your wheel to frame adjustment will be affected.

Wow that is way off.... Are you sure you dont have the MP tool cocked a bit or something? I use this tool and my notches are almost spot on with my 2018. Reason I asked is I had it kind of crooked first time I tried using it because of the little lip on the sprocket about where the bolt makes contact when tightening down.

Ohhhhh duh, think I would trust motion pro then.

its hard to eyeball the motionpro small stick to where i could not even trust what i was seeing. anyway i bought the laser tool and in conclusion the markings on the axel blocks are wrong.

and stop being a troll moron. your just out here trolling and not really contributing.

I guess I was tired when I posted that. That proves nothing, I know. In theory, the computer modeling should have the wheels in line when the chain is in line, but production tolerances could throw that off, just as it does on the axle blocks.

I should check mine once to see which is closest when the wheels are in line...
