I think the most reasonable solution here is to get one of everything.

 

Short of a turbo, no real engine performance upgrades for big gains, only incremental gains.
Flash will let get you a smoother power delivery, so easier to use.
I am also a big fan of suspension upgrades. They are always delivering, not just at full throttle.
Brake upgrades are cheap and easy after suspension. Big brakes will tie stock suspension in knots.

 

Full exhaust of your choice and an ECM flash by V-Cyclenut...


I've been riding motorcycles for many years on and off track and I think this MT09 has more than enough power than I will ever need right out of the box. I'm more concerned with suspension and braking upgrades...

 

The key to riding quickly is to not slow down...

 

Buy an MT 10. It will be cheaper and faster.
Or, if you're looking for top speed buy a Z 10 or a BMW S1000.
I am 100% serious!

 

I have an MT10 with a flash and great aftermarket suspension. I'm an average rider. For the last 3 years I've ridden with groups from this forum on nice difficult twisty roads. All of the fast guys on MT09s have great aftermarket suspension and all of them outrun me. In a drag race I could beat them. Come on down to ECR24 in NC this June.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't need top speed. For me, the fun is in the torque band. Any thoughts on changing sprockets to pick up low end? If I were to change the sprocket, would I need to get the bike tuned to match the RPM change? I've been on 2-wheels for 40 years but I haven't ever gone outside of stock.

 

Just going with an ecu flash, full exhaust and gearing change may get you what you want. To go beyond that is gonna get REALLY pricey and agree with shamrock about considering the MT10 if the flash etc. still leaves you wanting more.

I actually went to a superduke 1290. My MT09s all had aftermarket suspension front and rear, 320mm rotors, radial mc, flashed, etc. All the tricks learned on this forum.
Just missing hp stupid hp.

My 2022 MT-09SP has a flat spot in second gear. Will your flash get rid of it?

Upgrade the suspension. You'd be shocked at how much faster you can ride (and how much less energy you use) when the bike is in control and holding a line through corners.
