YAMALUBE or MOTUL for the MT09? Or something else?

From your experience, what has been the best oil for your Yamaha MT09 (or other Yamaha) ?

And a quick...why?

Appreciate any comments.

Greetings from Sweden.

Motul 300v is what I run in my 23' SP, probably a little overkill for a street bike. I should really just go with 7100. Just want the best for my baby! Why Motul? Well its great, high quality oil and its locally available at Cycle Gear. We just recently got Yamaha back in town at a dealer. Prior to that, no Yamalube locally available.

Yamalube, conventional. It's not overpriced and the quality is not a concern. According to oil analysis I had done by Blackstone, the Yamalube conventional oil lasts longer than the recommended oil change interval that Yamaha gives.

I had that oil in my FZ07. Recommended interval was 6,000 miles. I was at double that and Blackstone's analysis was saying the oil was still good to go, no loss of viscosity, no sign of thermal breakdown and no wear metals. Sold the bike at 30,000+ miles ( 32,000 I think?) and the oil reports were always squeaky clean. According to Blackstone, far cleaner than anything else in their database using the CP2 engine.

FZ09 interval is 4,000 miles. I went to 6,000 miles and Blackstone analysis was same as above.

For $22/gallon on the shelf at my local dealership, I don't see a reason to look for anything else.

Different location, different experiences: Yamaha shops in Italy for an oil change charge you € 65,88 with Yamalube semisyntetic oil and additional € 25 for the 100% syntetic option (Yamalube 4-FS) = € 90,88.

Motul 7100's price on Amazon is around € 13 per liter, and you need less of 3 liters for an oil change...

Moreover Yamalube 4-FS's API rating is "SG", while Motul 7100 is "SN" ... that means that is 5 tech steps above.

I gave it a try - as soon my 5 years Yamaha warranty period expired and Motul has a very good reputation: it looked like I renew my clutch pack as it was smoother.

I think I will change oil more frequently in the future (here Yamaha recommends 10.000km and before I did so) as the bike has 94.000 km, I do the job myself and the oil is much cheaper

I use Shell Rotella full syn. Readily available at Wally-world and it's about $ 6.50/qt.
I've used it in all of my bikes for the past 25 years with zero issues JASO cert MA & MA2.

All my bikes had in it is Yamalube. I bought a case of oil, filters and crush washers the day I bought the bike. Was digging around in the shed and found another case of Yamalube oil and fixings. So I must have bought two setups that day. I've had no issues with it,,, was cheap because I bought it the day I bought the bike at 5% above cost. So I'm good.

Greetings from Sweden.
Went with MOTUL 7100 10w-40.

Engine been running smoother and more quiet right away. Nice red colored oil as well. I would recommend.
Changed the oil filter as well and replaced it with the one in the pic, K&N Performance.

Thanks for all the replies.

As long it is JASO MA2 its fine.

I use 5W40

All Japanese stuff can use old spec oil as they are very conservative
so you can buy oil everywhere

It could always be worse. I remember standing at the oil section at my local auto store looking for a mineral oil to run in a brand new little dirt bike,,,and there was a bunch of blokes standing around not doing anything not talking. About 5 guys staring at a wall of bottles 2l, 5, black bottles,,blue bottles nothing weird re life nothing unusual or awkward but a bit odd because I could see it from my wife’s point of view because it was for her klx140 after a short break in ride. So I go up to the front and start looking for a mineral oil and everything says semi synthetic or synthetic,,bugger I’m stuck. Then there’s this guy with his phone out with an oil finding app asking me what the oil is for. So I told him klx140 2023 model. Pretty quick he came back with an answer. I don’t remember that bit i was just looking for castrol motorbike oil in the grey bottle mineral oil. It wasn’t there so I entertained this bloke and he was helpful. And there was a few people standing around looking confused. But this one fellow was actually there trying to help people with his phone out. He didn’t work there. It’s an oil thread. So if you have made it this far. There was a music festival when I was younger alternative nation and the 🌶 cancelled but there was nin and some other bands still. Anyway when the bus arrived there was probably 10 or so people at the back of the bus and I decided I’m going to wait for everyone to get off then I go last that’ll be easier. Then no one got off and we’re all just looking around. Then somebody started laughing and things went back to normal
