ohhh, that looks nice!!

And rocky - yes, thats a sensible plan. The stock pipe is OK - especially when going hard - so definitely bearable until the options increase.

Personally, i am not a big fan of the black headers - either i will wrap them or go all chrome with a header kit.

the top of the list for me is a ventura rack to help with carrying cr@p to and from work...

That looks pretty much the same list of accessories as listed on the Yamaha Canada website.

https://www.yamaha-motor.ca/eshop/m...ch.php?sectionId=AC&unitGroup=MC&unitYear=2016&unitId=4740&unitName=2016+XSR900

As for the exhaust, wouldn't a carbon fibre or black ceramic slip-on look better? with black header?

If you give it a few months, after the XSR900 gets out there, all kind of after market accessories will start showing up. Especially since the majority of the bike is the same as the MT/FJ/FZ-09's

Do I dare ask how much???? since the Yamaha Canada website shows it at least in the range of $400 CDN, ouch!

Yamaha Motor Canada :: Products :: Motorcycles and Scooters :: Sport :: 2016 XSR900

Hopefully R&G, Evotech, SW-Motech, Ermax, Puig, etc. will start making aftermarket parts for the XSR.

At least all the engine guards, frame sliders, axle sliders and some other items that fit the FZ-09 will also fit the XSR.

Nooooo, not pipe wrap! ?

I kinda like the black headers. Not sure how they will wear though. Maybe silver ceramic coat eventually? I've done that on two of my bikes already and it looks good and seems pretty durable.

Or just spring for the Akra full system. Probably need a Power Commander and a dynotune then. The $ start to add up. ?

Was it on this forum I read "Hey, if I had all the money I've spent on motorcycles, I'd spend it on motorcycles." ?

Hi. New to the forum. First time posting. I bought what I believe may have been the first XSR sold in California last Saturday.

The only pipe that works with the stock ECU and fuel mapping, as far as I know, is the Akrapovic. They worked closely with Yamaha to develop their Ti and Carbon race systems. I believe, though I have not confirmed this, that this is why the headers on both are so long and have that kind of ugly right angle and also why the carbon has that weird loop in the mid pipe. It's all about creating sufficient back pressure to run without a PC or a flash of some kind.

I ordered an Arrow with the Black Aluminum can and a stainless tip. I think the look of the stock pipe fits the bike so I went kind of off that.

The US market is kind of starved for accessories on this bike so far. I've bought or ordered a few goodies already but little things like radiator grills and passenger peg covers are not available here at all yet. I'll post pics as the stuff rolls in. The big bummer is the ECU is not the same as the FZ/MT (so I'm told) because of things like traction control. This means that while the Arrow pipe will almost definitely fit and work, I can't install for a while because there is no aftermarket or tuning of any kind available yet. I could bolt it up, but the bike will run like cr@p. Cmon Dynajet!!!! Let's go already! I have almost 200 miles on the damn thing for Chrissakes!!!

At the dealership...

Trucked it home - 1 mile on the Odometer..

Broke it in partially that night (last Saturday) then hit some Tujunga Canyon for about 50 miles of 2nd and 3rd gear break in

seat cowl - waiting on the black seat to bolt her up.

Can't wait to get those gawdawful signals and that hideous fender the hell off the bike!

More to come next week...

That seat cowl really transforms the look of the bike! Once those hideous rear plate holders are gone along with the goofy turn signals, this bike is very very sharp.

I feel compelled to add that I had a deposit down for a yellow 60th Anniv one. I went to look at the Aluminum to prove to myself that I hated it. I couldn't leave. The serial on this bike is a bunch of 0s followed by two digits. It's one of the first 100 made. I just couldn't walk away. Eff the yellow. This bike can become the Walking Dead/Mad Max machine I see hidden under those ugly a$$ turn signals.

After riding it a few times I also must add that this bike is totally sick. Looks, handling, speed, power, comfort.... It's everything you could want in a street bike. Seriously. I had no idea the FZ was so fast. I've had some big bikes and ran a '02 ZRX1200 and an '06 CBR1000RR for a couple years. This bike feel faster in the lower registers. It's perfect.

Also, the press photos of the aluminum did not do this bike justice. It just looks friggin' absolutely great in person.

Ok... off to go ride.

Peace!

Went to test ride the XSR today. Loved it! Only thing that really disappointed me was the exhaust note, or lack of. The dealer (in Australia) told me the only pipes you can get for it is the full Akropovic in Titanium or Carbon. And only a full system as the stock system is fully welded, so no slip ons available.

Sith, as far as stock cans go, i think this is OK. what type of riding did you do? under load, around 8-10k, it sounds pretty wild, i think....

good to know about the full system info, but it's still pretty new. i've been looking at the geometry and it does indeed look like the mt-09, so hunting for a 2nd hand full system at the moment. There is plenty of stuff available, but i reckon wait a bit and you'll have some specific options for the xsr900 from the major players. I'd be shocked if yoshi and the others dont offer something, considering they already do for the mt09.

Very interested in your report Compton. I put these on my old Cb1100f: Rizoma Mirrors - Reverse Retro [12148] - $149.95 : Motorcycle Accessories Supermarket, Motorcycle Accessories Supermarket (MCA) is your one-stop shop for Harley, sports bike, & off road bike parts & accessories. Fast shipping.

The Rizomas are excellent quality, but three times the price of the ones you're going for mate. The advantage of this style of bar-end is it doesn't increase the bike width for filtering. You do have to be careful when you're walking your bike around as I find they can interfere with your wrists in some manoeuvres...

#28 ·
Yes the Rizoma ones are pretty pricey... I've had some replicas on my last bike for four years and they were perfect. Only problem is they were already installed when I got the bike and are unbranded so I don't know where they came from. I'd buy them again if I could. So anyway, fingers crossed. I was toying with the idea of some round bar end mirrors. Maybe I'll get inspired when people start getting their XSRs and sticking nice things on them...

Here are some thread in bar end mirror mounts that might do the trick on the stock bars.

RhinoMoto Barends Mirror Mounts For Yamaha FZ/MT Models | Motostarz USA | Motostarz.com

RhinoMoto Barends Mirror Mounts For Yamaha FZ/MT Models

These mirror mounts are designed specifically for Yamahas that have stock barends that screw into the bars with M16 threads, such as the FZ, FZR and FZ6R, and allow mounting of CRG barend mirrors. This 2-piece design consists of bodies CNC machined from billet steel and replaceable polymer buttons that act as the sliding surface. They utilize the same threads as the stock barends and an 8mm hex recess is located at the end of the body under the button so that that a hex key socket can be used to torque these to factory spec. The button then screws onto the body. Once mounted these have the same appearance as our other mirror mounts. This kit is offered in black powdercoated finish only, but with a choice of button style. Please select button style when ordering.

Kit 150-0100 contains 2 threaded mirror mounts with buttons, stainless fasteners for the buttons, installation instructions and 2 RhinoMoto logo stickers.

Not for me. I don't like the idea of carbon on that style of bike. I'm going to hold out. Danmoto are now producing full systems that fit the XSR900, and cheap too. A few of the mufflers are quite retro-ish. Not necessarily performance enhancing but they look and apparently sound decent too. Something to think about.
