Hey all,

After reading a ton of posts here I decided to start my suspension work by simply picking up a (pre-drilled) ZX10R shock off of eBay. Unfortunately I do not have the equipment or experience to install it myself.

Can anyone recommend a good shop in the Orange County area?

I contacted CycleMall (the FlashTune guys), but they said that is not the type of work that they prefer. As for dealships, after a few slow and very overpriced dealings, I simple do not trust Mission Motorsports at all.

Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

Thanks,
Tom

try Sesto Customs Cycles in Stanton, CA Tony knows his stuff and really knows Yamaha's. Look him up on the web and checkout his work.

I also will be in the same boat here shortly. Down in San Diego. If anyone can recommend suspension people in San Diego that would be much appreciated.

I can help put the shocks in. I am in San Diego. I am not a shop though, just a hobbyist with some tools.
Now that's some good O'l SoCal hospitality. 24v rocks!

If anyone needed a shock installed in my area (Santa Barbara) I would be happy to do the install too.

Spreading good cheer one bike at a time. How cool is that!

I would help, but I'm nowhere near CA. It is a pretty easy installation, all that is needed is a paddock stand, scissor jack, and a couple of sockets and wrenches.

I just love working on stuff, and it is fun to meet others with the same bike. :)

This forum is amazing, multiple people have offered to help me install the shock!
A local user from Anaheim messaged me about installing the shock, so hopefully he and I will be able to schedule something soon.

I am still curious, are there no good motorcycle shops in Southern California?

Tom,
Metric Method in Irvine on Lake Forest Blvd is awesome. They have a clean well managed shop. They have a beautiful waiting room. I had a couple tires installed there. Their shop rate is lower than any dealer. The owner is a motorcycle road racer. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Hope that helps.

There really should be a Law requiring every state to have several shops like this sprinkled around within their highly populated boundaries.

OrangeBlaze,
Thanks again! I set up an appointment with Metric Method in two weeks.

All,
Thanks to everyone who offered to help me out!
Spare time is something I just don't have right now, so having the shock installed during my lunch break is just the best way for me to go.

I'll post a review after the works is done!

Thanks,
Tom

I know this is a old thread, but I just got my Ohlins shock installed at Race Tech in Corona, CA. They also re-valved and changed my springs. It took several hours and several hundred dollars, but I'm pretty happy with my set up. I'm gonna canyon test it tomorrow.

Let me know how it feels after the suspension mods because I am thinking of the exact same setup.

what years will fit? is it just the shock or do you need anything else? what has to be drilled?

My FZ09 fells like an entirely different bike now. It reminds me of my 05 R6, but more torque. My new suspension set up instilled a lot of confidence in my riding. I was able get down to a 1/4 of a cm on my chicken strips in the rear. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the FZ09 to the track once it warms up.

I've always had good luck with a shop called West Coast GP Cycles right by where the 10 and the 405 meet. They will be installing my ZX10r shock (and drilling it out for me) next week on Wednesday. I'll let you know how it turns out, but so far they've been good about the work they've done. They do tons of shock swaps for things like Penske and Ohlins units, but they are doing my ZX10r swap and will be able to claim previous experience on the job after next week!
