I know some of you have gone the cartridge route on your bikes.
So this might mean you have a right front fork cap at your disposal.

If so, please PM me ASAP!

Thanks.

All or part of ?

Can you post a pic ?

Might be able to save.

Have done so before.
It was just the first 3 or so threads.
It's on there now and I didn't take a picture when it was off.
The guy that installed them wants to make it right by purchasing me a brand new one though.
When he placed the order it said the part was on a national waiting backorder until 9/26/14 or something of that nature!

I posted months ago about getting my # 2 FZ 09 in December with cross thread cap from factory.

I was able to clean 1st 3 threads ( 1mm pitch ) by using an 8 mm by 1mm pitch tap as a scraper to clean up threads.

I have since got gears to cut metric threads on my lathe.

I ordered a cap and got within a month, but had already fixed mine.

The FZ 09 I sold last month had the repaired cap and I gave the new owner the new cap.

They are pretty pricey from Yamaha, I think it was $ 150 or 250 ?

You can take a thread file, or a small triangular jeweler's file to clean up the threads. It requires some time. This is fairly common, as the cap is aluminum and the fork tube is steel. I say this, assuming that you're referring to the initial couple of threads of the cap. Even with a couple of boogered threads, you'll have enough thread protrusion to not have weakened the cap enough to warrant replacement.
