Hello all.

Im about to purchase a second hand 2015 mt 09.
the bike has 3 tiny scratches on the frame as a result of installing an alarm.

I wanted to hear any opinion of this, does it matter? Is it fixable?

It should only matter to you. Can you look past it or will it drive you nuts?

It drives me nuts :)
Question is though does it lower the value or is it considered nothing? and is it fixable with sanding by a proffessional?
It would drive me nuts too. But I wouldn't expect to pay less. I have a limited edition Rapid Red bike and my frame is black. :p So I am not familiar that frame color so I can't offer a resolution.

It's aluminum underneath it - so it's only cosmetic. You'll be hard pressed to match the paint - I'd suggest cutting some pieces of silver reflective tape to cover them. The good thing is that it's got the first scratch(es) out of the way - and they are trivial. I hate it when I get the first scratches...

best bet is to try and color match the frame paint.

touch it up and forget about it.

Bikes get scratches eventually, get over it or drive a car.

Scratched my frame messing with the tank even after I was warned and took precautions to avoid it. It sucks, but it is what it is, just ******* it and put a sticker over them. Might I suggest one of our vendor's stickers.

You might be able to get some touch up paint through Color Rite??? They might be your best bet if they can match the frame colour, or see if the local Yamaha dealer can get their hands on some for you.

I'd buy an un scratched bike.

Scratches are easy to deal with, until they are on the frame.

It is an indicator of careless work.

Well I guess we aren't all as perfect as you. But in my case you may or may not be right.

My buddy is trying to sell his bike, and he has some small blemishes on the frame. Never been down. Just a battery that leaked and left marks on the frame.

Every potential buyer wants to see it closely.

And it has been a year. Every single person goes on to buy one of the hundreds of unblemished bikes also for sale.

Scratches are easy to deal with. Just not on the frame. Stickers may cover it, but a potential buyer will want to see what they are covering up. Stickers are all too often used to cover the sins of another.

Would you be getting a helluva deal on the bike?

Not a big deal. Its not like its been dropped. Its a couple of nicks. Touch it up. I know if your the kind of person thats gonna look at it overtime you look at the bike it sucks, but really, no one else will see it. If the price is right and you have the desire to have an FZ-09 buy it!

There are touch up specialists that service auto dealerships that can spot finish those scratches. One of the local companies in Southern California is 'Colors On Parade'. They do very nice work. That's what I would do.
