P0638 code?

My 2021 mt09 sp started running wonky yesterday. At low rpm steady throttle it surges and almost put you mind of a carbed bike running out of fuel. It would take full throttle and accelerate as normal. Check engine light was not on but the code reader showed the above code and read "throttle actuator control range/performance bank 1"

I've not been able to find much information about how to deal with this and if the control range is something I can adjust. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Service manual says YCCT drive malfunction, it lists a number of things to check. I'd start by reseating the motor connector.
There is a diagnostic flow chart on page 9-169 of the service manual. It runs you through checking the harness continuity as well as a functional test of the YCC-T throttle assm.
Does the code reappear as soon as clear it, or will it run normally for a bit?
I dont have the service manual....will hunt around and see if its available online...in the meantime I read where disconnecting the battery ground for 5 minutes in some cases will reset things. I just did that, started the bike in the garage and no code. Just going to take a short ride and see how things go....will report back.
I should have mentioned that a few days ago it did go into the limp home mode...restarted and the bike was fine until the above symptoms. Perhaps its ecu related?
Success! While reading about trouble shooting the code, one site I went to which was not motorcycle related, had a few suggestions about simple things to try b4 digging in too deep. The easiest was to disconnect the negative terminal for 5 minutes. Just came in from a ride and all is golden...did a code check and nothing hidden. I am wondering if going into the limp home mode may have contributed to the code and symptoms? Will stop by the dealer for the ecu update for the recalled models.

But what caused it to go into limp mode in the first place??
Those issues are the most difficult to pinpoint. I myself would keep on riding and see if it happens again before I would start troubleshooting. Maybe some electrical gremlin in a sensor (tps, aps, iaps) caused by moisture?
Apparently there was a recall on some of the early 2021 mt09's for going into the limp mode. From what I understand a it is a very quick and easy fix...ecu update via obd port.
