For the first gen bikes and ECU, you'll need an aftermarket flash and QS sensor for the shift linkage.I have a 2014 MT-09, and was looking to install a quickshifter on it. I found a QS+autoblipper from an MT-09 2021 SP, but my local dyno guy says OEM Yamaha QS can't be mapped into gen 1 ECU. Is he right? I thought for sure it was possible..
Second generation bikes had the QS option, and one can purchase the OEM sensor and enable the feature in the stock ECU.
If you want an auto-blipper for the first gen, you have a couple options.
I personally run the Woolich system with racetools. I think it's fantastic. Has never failed on me, and the racetools package comes with other useful features such as launch control, pit lane speed limiter, and quick warm-up.
The other option is the TransLogic unit, which I have no experience with personally. I believe @Darf uses it and he could chime in.
