I came off a gsx1000 and I thought this bike would be punchy and torquey compared to that but all it is is slow af. Can someone please tell me what I’m missing. Like to I need to flash the ecu to get this thing to run like I heard it did or is it really just this pathetic. Thanks
2025 MT-09.

You're missing a reflash but don't waste your money on that. Go find something that has 100 more cc's, four cylinders and says "Ninja" on it. You're welcome.

Completely different animals. The triple in this bike makes power til 10k, while the inline 4 in my K6 GSXR1K pulls to 12.5.
The additional 110cc also puts it well into the 70's in torque.

Lol
You wanna do highway pulls on a bike that makes it's power in the low to mid range rpm. Good job researching the motorcycle you were buying. If you wanted a supersport, you should've gotten a supersport. Mt09 is, famously, a hooligan machine.

Your not wrong. I'm constantly bouncing off the limiter. Im also coming off of liter bikes. I would classify it as a :
"middle age guys post liter bike, easing into a touring bike/cruiser type bike" (sorry youngsters with this bike)
I'm 50. Done the track days, Canyon carving, weekend rips, etc..... Love the speed and definately the twisties. But, I hate the huntched over cramped riding position of a true sport bike. Hence my transition to the MT09. While I am dissapointed in the power compared to a 1000cc, it does shine everywhere else really nicely. Comfortable, agile, MPG, low maintenance, easy maintenance, etc....
I do wish I had had the chance to test ride a Ducatj Supersport or some similar before the MT09 purchase. I hear those have the comfort and sportbike ability. I had a Ducati 1098 but again, although it had shoulder dislocating power, it was only ridable for about 1/2 hour before hands went numb and my butt needed a break.
If you truly like the MT style, try the MT10.

If you feel the need to come on here and complain, that is certainly within your "rights" as a member here. However, I will warn you RIGHT NOW......keep it civil and respectful. Take the time to read through the forum rules and understand them....YOU agreed to follow/comply with them when you signed up for membership here. If those two (and others) criteria are not met by you, or you feel that they are NOT acceptable to you, it might be time to find a different forum.

Second thing....it sounds to me like you did very limited research before purchasing the MT09, especially if you are a liter bike lover. The analogy is similar to trying to compare the torque/power of a gasoline engine vs. a modern day diesel engine.....apple to oranges.

If you are that unhappy with the MT, sell it and move on to something that is more acceptable to you and your riding style/needs/wants

Very different bikes for sure. Both have their own fun characteristics. Where the 09 shines is on slow speed corner exits. The punch of the CP3 is fun, but definitely can feel like it falls on its face shortly after. Direction changes are fun on the 09, and the leverage from the handlebars makes it a more comfortable/fun bike to ride IMO.

At the end of the day, the bike may not be for you and that's okay. If you're looking for something that will have more power, you can try something more like an MT-10.

I had the same problem...I figured out that my gear or neutral indicator switch was the issue. My bike was throwing incorrect RPM for gears without a functioning one. Also one of my intake lines connected to the bottom of my air box was not connected. These two things caused this same thing. My bike felt like it was not rolling freely when clutch lever was in coming to a stop. Check under airbox and tell me that's not the issue. One more possibility comes to mind...chain tension, and make sure it's lubed.

Ok guys for real I want to love this bike but it really just no no torque in the low end I really think it has way more potential than this. This bike shouldn’t need to get to 9000rpm before it starts pulling. Is the ecu holding it back until 500miles? Do I need a ecu flash to let the fly by wire throttle loose? It’s got to be something. My jabs were just my frustration I am not trolling. I really want this bike to rip

In stock form, there are throttle restrictions in 1st and 2nd gear, especially bad in 2nd gear if you whack the throttle open from lowish RPM's. You'll need to reflash to get rid of these restrictions.
Even fully unleashed, it's never gonna quite rip like a full fat 1000. The 09's real advantage is light weight.

Get a good reflash, like Vcyclenut's, and if you still feel it's not enough, there are lots of other great bikes that make more torque/power. MT-10, Hornet 1000, Z H2, plus the Euro super nakeds if you're willing to deal with them.

Personally I'd love to try the Z H2 but it's a bit of a porker (like over 500 pounds wet).

Honestly, I think that everyone enjoys a warp speed blast once in a while, but something with 150+ hp is an absolute handful trying to put the power to the ground.
I've found that 100-120 hp is more than enough to get my freak on without constantly feeling I almost died...

My BMW is over 165hp and this is accurate. Everything on this bike happens so much quicker than on my FZ by comparison. You can let loose the bike on the highways, or on back roads between each turn where the road is straight, just means you're going to need to be good on the brakes. The forces you feel are incredible and very addicting. The wind alone wants to rip your head off at 150mph.

There is something really satisfying about riding the FZ09 hard, because you really need to earn it. The 1000's are like a cheat code: Twist the loud handle and off you go.

There's a lot to that. I don't like playing where other traffic and the cops hang out. To cut loose 150+ hp bikes requires a highway. Highways are no fun.

Similarly, no more 65-70hp dirt bikes for me anymore. They just wear you down. 45hp feels good, I'm faster than ever and I can go all day without getting fatigued by holding the bike back all the time.

I definitely heard the newer MT09’s have, as previously mentioned, restrictions that hold them way back without a flash… What about your old bike? Did it have a flash? Exhaust? Different sprockets?

0 to 60 times on those two bikes are only off by about a half a second 2.8 versus 3.3 making the GSXR definitely a bit quicker but nothing like what you’re describing.

Post flash, exhaust, and air filter my 2016 XSR 900 is plenty of fun around town and offers very similar performance to the 180 hp R1 I came off of… but also as previously mentioned my high speed highway days are in the past.

as for the sound… I miss that in-line for but after putting on the titanium Graves exhaust, I definitely like it a lot more than the stock can.

if you decide to go forward with any of these mods Dave with Vcyclenut is definitely your man
