Riding with a tune:
I got tuned by vcyclenut and it was a miracle for my riding experience. Sure, any extra power was welcome but the bike went from being a fast but only OK experience (imo) to being a total blast! The smoothness of the throttle and the linear acceleration alone made the tune worth it. I live in Arizona so changes like the fan turning on sooner were great as well. Something you'd probably like being in Texas.
My two cents on the exhaust:
I wanted a full system but didnt want to spend Akro money and my research lead me to Black Widow Exhausts in the UK. Customer service responded to my shipping inquiry really quick (they ship to the US and it arrived super fast) plus I liked what I found about them on the web so I got a full system for about $450 (if I remember right) and I love it! It's stainless steel with a carbon fiber can, sounds amazing(!) and I havent had a single problem with it. I installed it right before the tune so vcyclenut factored it in. If something happens and I find myself needing another exhaust, I will buy this same one again, no hesitation.
I have zero affiliation with them and no stake in your decision but
here are their full systems for the FZ09. I got the 230mm can. If you want to be heard on the road, I'd go with that size. With the baffle in I drove around my dad in his newer silverado and he said he could only hear me if I was rippin by him. With the baffle out he heard me cruising around him but not overly loud. So theres some presence there with normal driving but it's not obnoxious. That having been said, haha,
outside of the car with
no baffle has got some volume, haha! Let me put it this way, it's like standard bullet bike loud. I can drive around my neighborhood without pissing anyone off but if you give it the beans it screams. Putting the baffle in will still get you the same sound, just a lower volume. I'm baffle out full time though cause thats the volume I was looking for in the first place.
Good luck with your decisions!
