I bought a locking caribiner on eBay for $8 . I use the passenger peg to hang the helmet and the caribiner to lock to the bungee loop there.

 

A more expensive solution......

I Use my 46l top case, it holds my full face helmet, pants, gloves and more. Not as sexy with the case but needed as a commuter.

 

I bought a master lock 14" cable. I loop it through the face shield and through the handle bar. One thing though if anyone else does do this, just be careful not to scratch the tank, since the ends are metal, which I have never scratched. Hope this may help some. I bought a pair keyed the same. His and hers, and we don't have to guess which one is what.

 

This what I have made, fixed to the front bolt that holds the side plastics on, when I'm in a bad part of town I use a cable through the chin piece for extra security.

The seat covers the hook and it can't be seen.

With the use of a strap to the pillion peg the helmet can stay in place when ridding if required.

 

Is that a mic cord I see? Sena or gopro?

 

Does the seat sit flush when you're not hanging a helmet off of it?

 

You would never know the hook is there, seat fits as it should with or without the helmet.
There is another bolt near the rear that can be used but the seat is more flexable there and if they realy wanted your helmet they maybe able to pry it out from under the seat.
you could fit a hook to each side of the bike and still use the seat as normal.

Just got my FZ09 yesterday. I can't believe this bike has no helmet lock! WTF?! I understand Harley's not coming with a lock, but this bike?! I don't understand this at all.

 

There's a reason(s) Yamaha sells them for under 8 GS,$US. One is the suspension......

 

My $5500 SV had two helmet hooks under the rear seat that my g/f and I used every ride (when we stopped to go in the store, for a walk on the beach, park, etc etc. Thanks for posting OP, I will be doing this as well!

I bought a lock that has a hose clamp that connects it to the bike......I ditched the clamp and it fit perfect where the left hand side pass peg was just removed the peg delete bracket and installed the lock with the existing threaded hole...

 

I'm still working on mine but once they're perfected, I'm sure I can fab another set up for like 20 bucks

That's a great freakin idea. My R6 used to have hooks like that under the seat. I'm surprised that the FZ09 doesn't have the same set up. I like your set up. Might have to fabricate one similar myself..... Nice work!

 

I've never used the stock helmet locks on motorcycles..... seen too many d-rings hanging off without a helmet attached. I either use a cable lock thru the eye port, or, most of the time, carry it with me! Never had one stolen, either.

 

I have never seen that, but I am curious as to how many people have seen helmets cut off of D-rings that were locked to bikes. I have always been paranoid that some dumbass would basically ruin a helmet just to steal it.

 

A pistol lock/cable makes a great helmet holder. The lock and cable are typically coated so they won't booger up your helmet's chin bar or passenger footpeg mount, etc... The key's are tiny and the whole thing will easily fit in a jacket pocket or in the empty space roughly under the rear gas tank mount. Don't have one? They aren't expensive. REALLY frugal? Stop by a police station and ask for one. Many will give you a gun lock for free.

 

I have never seen this either. I've also never owned a $600 Arai or Shoei. Maybe if you're really in a bad part or town, but then again, you maybe be lucky if your bike is still sitting there. I'll use the helmet lock/hook every ride as soon as I make a set.

LOL I have about two dozen pistol locks and one dozen rifle locks. All my guns sit in the safe lol.

 

I don't leave my helmet with the bike. If I am gonna be some where that it is not convenient to hand carry, i use this.

Several motorcycle purposed backpacks have holders for helmets now-a-days. But it is bulky as hell walking around like that.

 

I like to know that my helmet is safe. It is not uncomfortable at all.

It's not the cheapest route but it works great because I can secure my helmet through the visor opening rather than the d-ring. The cable on it isn't that long but it's just long enough so that I can place my helmet on the passenger peg. I originally wanted it on the other side of the bike because of how the bike leans to the left but the exhaust would've melted my helmet.
