FZ 09 vs Keep Daytona 675 and get FZ07

Hello all! First off, I am newto the forums so hopefully I am posting in the correct section! Basically I am torn. I currently ride a Triumph Daytona 675 and love the bike... but not so much riding it on the street 90% of the time. I truly appreciate it for what it is, an amazing piece machinery capable of flying around a track at high speed. However on the road, I am usually either uncomfortable, or riding faster than I probably should on the street. Now that's not to say I don't go on rides and just have a blast, but I find myself missing my old FZ6R for it's ability to just cruise around and enjoy longer rides or commute. Enter the FZ09. It seems like it would be a great bike for me. great for commuting, similar power to my Daytona and gobs more low and midrange. However I am worried I will miss than handling of the supersport. Basically I want to know if anyone else has made the switch, and if they miss the true thoroughbred sports bike, or if the mighty FZ09 with some mods is enough to satisfy the inner squid when the occasion arises. My choices are A. trae inor sell the Trumph and get a new FZ09 (2017 and up) to get the better suspension, or B. Keep the Triumph and get a used FZ07 for 4k. I worry that the FZ07 may be too low on power for me however and I will just never ride it.. I think that I think about bikes too much and not ride them enough  I apologize for the long winded first post! Thoughts?

I understand your tough decision! As the 675 is such a beautiful and well made machine. I had a 13 zx6r 636 and i loved that bike so much! Performed so well but just like you I mostly rode in the city and commuted and occasionally rode canyons. I wanted something more comfortable and powerful as well with torque. In my opinion the fz09 torque is way better than going crazy fast at high speeds . I’m so glad I made the switch. As it is totally different than a sport bike the fz09 is such a beast in every way. I have a 2016 and I love that thing so much. The low/mid power great in the city and the torque on the bike is the best. Always a fun ride on the bike and comfortable as well. A little too uptight for me but I installed some woodcraft clipons to give a little sportier feel and the setup is awesome! No doubt you will not regret getting an fz09 BUT If you have the funds and are able to afford two bikes. I would keep the 675 and get the fz07! The 07 is surprisingly very fast and powerful. You can be doing power wheelies easily on that thing. Very fast and nimble bike. Great for city riding. That’s what I would do if I was able to have two bikes. The Daytona is an amazing bike I would keep it if I were you! This is my opinion of course but let us know what you do! But keep in mind you will always have a smile on your face with the 09!

Thank you for your thoughts and replies! I have plenty of time to make the decision as I live in the snow belt in NY so I won't be riding much after October until Spring. I love the FZ07 as well, have you ridden one yourself? It looks like a blast, about the same HP as my old FZ6R but with much more torque, and like you said wheelies for days! Something I want to practice haha. I'll definitely keep you up to date on my decision, at this point I flip flop multiple times a day :0

I was in pretty much the same position, coming from a 675R. It was a fantastic bike but my 47 year old body couldn't get comfortable with it any longer. I traded the Triumph against a 2017 FZ-09 and have not regretted it at all. The FZ-09 is more than capable of letting you get your hooligan on any time you like. I did end up adding an Akrapovic system and doing a flash of the ECU (FTEcu). Other than a few farkles, the bike is pretty much how I want it now. Might add a Flashtune quickshifter, but that's it. I do have a 2012 R1 if I really fancy some power. For some reason, I find it much more comfortable than the Daytona ever was.

Yes! I have rode an FZ07 for a couple of months and man that bike was fun! So light and quick for its size. That thing pulls as well! I had a great time on it and didn’t get bored of it. It’s very easy to take control of that bike. Wheelies are MUCH easier on the 07 compared to the 09. I ended getting the 09 because it’s torque is out this world but man if i you could keep both those bikes I totally would. Try getting a test ride on one. You’ll see how fun the 07 is and it’s speed and torque will surprise you no doubt. More than enough power for the city and highway! Haha I know what you mean. I want new bikes every week but the 09 is something I will for sure keep forever. In love with it!

compared to the Triumph the suspension on either the 07 or 09 is a total farce. Expect to spend $1000-1200 total to fix both ends. I own both and both are a hoot. You will definitely need an ECU flash for the fz07. buying in the dead of winter with a foot of snow on the ground you can get the best deal. Best to do your test-rides before that though...
I've owned a 2015 Daytona 675R and liked the FZ09 sooo much more on the streets. Of course I have a fully upgraded suspension, pipe, flash, QS, steering damper and radial MC to name most of the performance upgrades. It's just a better ride on the street. Brutal when you want it to be, and comfy ride when you just want to relax. I'd go for a used 09 and upgrade it, but I like fiddling with things.

You'll miss the ss from time to time but the fz is no slouch in the corners when the suspension is sorted. You'll learn to appreciate the ergos and torque more than the scalpel like handling and stability your daytona offers. Or you wont, but I do.
Not a Daytona, but I rode a Street Triple R 675. Even that handles way better than an FZ09. But it can't compete with the FZ09s low-mid range though that makes it great for city riding. Insta-power everywhere. The choice is yours, but you may also want to look at a Kawi Z900. Seems to be tops currently in the cheap middle weight naked class.
However on the road, I am usually either uncomfortable, or riding faster than I probably should on the street.
I came from a CBR600rr, was uncomfortable and rode faster than I should have. Now on the FZ09 I'm comfortable and ride faster than I should.

I find myself missing my old FZ6R for it's ability to just cruise around and enjoy longer rides or commute.
I commute 150km a day on the FZ09 and love it, and will usually do 600km each weekend. I don't miss my CBR one bit in those categories.

I am worried I will miss than handling of the supersport. Basically I want to know if anyone else has made the switch, and if they miss the true thoroughbred sports bike, or if the mighty FZ09 with some mods is enough to satisfy the inner squid when the occasion arises.
I find the handling of the FZ amazing. It's so much more nimble, and I find I've even gone off road a few times through a field - places I'd NEVER take a CBR. The FZ09 satisfies all the squids I've talked to - or has turned them into more of a hooligan.

My choices are A. trade in or sell the Trumph and get a new FZ09 (2017 and up) to get the better suspension, or B. Keep the Triumph and get a used FZ07 for 4k.
I find owning 2 toys is tough - especially since you'll pay for two insurance policies. I would personally by the FZ09 and be done.

As far as performance, from the videos I've seen online the FZ09 can take on a 600cc supersport - it mainly comes down to the riders ability. So you will not feel as if you're giving up much performance at all.

It sounds like the Daytona should be turned into a track bike. :D

Then go test ride an 07 & 09 and see which one is better for your other riding needs.
How about a used 09, and keep the Trumpy?

I thought about that as well, but he specifically said only 2017 and up.

Maybe he wants some of that T/C to keep that FZ09 front wheel on the ground?
Previously owned a ZX-6R and MT07. Definitely go for the 09, you won't regret it.
I owned a 2007 CBR600RR for 3 years and put 30k miles on it. Purchased a used 2015 Fz09 for the ergos and all the good words I had heard about the motor and sold the CBR after 2 months of owning both. I loved the look of the CBR but I found that I simply never rode it. Now I've got an FZ09 with full suspension and it rips so hard in the mountains. More of the FZ09 applies to more of the riding I do than the supersport did. I recommend test riding one. You are giving up so little to gain so much. FZ09 used prices are getting very affordable. As it was mentioned before, you will be spending about $1200 on the suspension for the 09 if you're used to a supersport suspension, $200 for a flash to smooth out the throttle. Ideally you may be able to find an 09 in the color you want with a pipe and flash already.

Good luck!

Get the FZ09 and upgrade the suspension. You won't have any regrets.
After this year the Daytona and the Trophy will no longer be available according to a person who works in a local shop.
Weird...didnt they just release the Street Triple 765? That's like the little brother of the Daytona.

I have a real hard time believing they're ending the Daytona line. Probably just update it to the 765.

I came from a Daytona 675. My back is much happier with the fz09 for commuting. The fz needs suspension a flash and a few other mods but will make a great commuter and is mostly superior than a d675 on the street.
