I have a 2015 FZ-09 and just now noticed it backfires after letting off the throttle and higher RPM's shoots a flame out the muffler. I have an S&C project full pipe. any ideas or is this normal for it to do that. Thanks

Most likely you have a exhaust leak . I have the same SC on my 2015 and mine also pops when you shift " that's kinda cool" . I found Mine to be cylinder #3 exhaust gasket . I found it by accident I washed the bike and had a baggie over the exhaust outlet with a stretchie hair thingy and was blowng it off with my gas powered blower and had it full blast at the header pipe at the cylinder head and once I got to cylinder #3 it blew the bag off. If it's cool morning you can start it up and look for a exhaust leak that way also.

To answer your question, this is pretty normal for a bike that has the factory Air Injection System valves working correctly.
Less restrictive exhausts, like the SC Project, will make this system more noticeable.

The AIS valve can be turned on or off in the computer with a flash.
You can also physically remove the valves and block off the ports if you prefer. (Some opt to do both.)
