Off topic. But it's nice to revisit this and see all the old names from the early days. And long gone Steve 101's signature photo.
The funny part is most people that use synthetic change more often I change at 4kSynth oil doesn't need to be changed as often. To me that's the big benefit. So your math is a bit off; but ya, it's still more $$$
Bike runs great ,do the valves every 25kCW 09. Very impressive mileage 142K. Can you please share if your engine is still powerfull? How many time you have adjusted valve cleareance? Thanks in advance for you comments.
Stirring the pot indeed. You're the first rider I've ever seen to talk about spending too much money on a motorcycle, lol. You have 145k on a bike that's 5 years old which works out to 29k a year. I'm sure you do ride your bike hard from time to time but I can only assume that 29k a year is a lot of commuting which doesn't put the engine through as much load as the way some others may be riding their bike. Also the proof is in taking an engine apart and inspecting the internal conditions of the material, not whether or not an engine still runs. At the end of the day your happy with the Yamalube, I'm happy with bel-ray which I can usually find 4l jugs on sale when I'm running low. Can't say I've ever seen Yamalube on sale when I've been at the dealer so cost could be debatable.I'll stir the pot ,but with a full disclosure ,I could care less what oil you put in your motorcycle. my 2014 fz09 is currently at 145k miles . I've used yamalube 10 /40 exclusively .it is currently 6.17 a qt ,3qts a change 40 changes equal 740.40 ,compare that to castrol r4 at 16.99 a qt 3qts 50.97 ,40 changes 2038.80 ,only time will tell when one of you synthetic guys gets up in the mileage !
That great to here about the longevity of these motors.
Nothing wrong with being brand loyal ether, it was 42 buck 3 qrts plus filter. I'm brand loyal also for years .
I've seen the inside of cylinders after running 650k with virtually no wear at all blown head gasket buddies 99 ram cummins that's banks powere .
Still going strong at 850k
I he use amsoil
That'll be me then. I change it once a year out of habit, but my mileage has been low for the past 3 years. The funny part is most people that use synthetic change more often I change at 4k
I'm rarely here any more (sold my FZ and stopped street riding 3 years ago), but I did see this message and thought it would be appropriate to replyOff topic. But it's nice to revisit this and see all the old names from the early days. And long gone Steve 101's signature photo.

belated update. It's what I run in all my engines.
2000 Dodge Dakota 5.9 magnum engine, 150k, no leaks, no engine repairs. (technically this is my brothers truck since two weeks ago)
2005 Honda Accord 2.4 liter Vtec PZEV, 27k no leaks, no engine repairs
2014 FZ09 8k. First oil change @ 600 miles I switched to shell rotella T-6 synthetic.
2014 NV200 800 miles, I'm changing the oil tomorrow or monday, will be running... yep you guessed it, T-6 synthetic.
I also ran it in my honda CB750s, my Honda CX500, my KLR 650, my XS650, my Bandit 1200s, etc, etc, etc.
other then a transmission problem in my CX, (due to power shifting I'm guessing) at 150k, I've had no engine or transmission or clutch problems for years and years. It's always 'other' things that fail.
I chose to go with maxima ultra4 5W-40 after speaking with Tim at maxima he stated its a full blown race oil... Well I'll just show you the email..
Any who at this time I had already ordered a case of the ultra 5w-40!
Not that I would've changed my mind for the price $103 for 12 liters on amazon.
But any who its seems to have quieted down the 3 gear whine some people hear and smoothed out the engine in my case at least rode for about an hour today to get a feel for it. Liking it so far but won't have it in my bike for more then 2,750 miles.
But for that deal on oil and me changing my own oil I think this is the perfect scenario for me.
Just wondering when and to what oil you guys are planning on using after break in or from now on. Seen other oil threads but wanted to get a little more detailed.
Also will be posting how to do oil change on the FZ-09 video on my YouTube channel if anyones not sure.
