Regarding the engine light warning. It àppeared while riding and hasn't gone away. I have done the ECU recall back in October and the bike was fine until today. I don't think it's Ecu related. I have no symptoms of the bike running bad. Other than I can't change driving modes or adjust settings from the menu screen. Any ideas ???

You should either take it to the dealer to get the fault code read or pick a cheap code reader and get the 6 pin to obd connector. Dealer will likely charge more than the cost of the connector and a cheap code reader. I just bought a connector for my 2021 mt and it was under $20.00.

Just saw your bike is 1st gen so you need a 4 pin. Copy and paste this on amazon.com...I already have the 6 pin ordered, maybe someone here can use the one you bought.

4 pin yamaha connector
So the 3rd Gen is a 6 pin instead of 4? I bought the connector to keep under my seat in case i ever need it but then i found out (unless its false) that a scanner wont connect to my bike and the only way to read fault codes is through the diag menu on the display. I was going to keep it for the R1 but its a 6 pin

Yup 3rd gen is 6 pin and 2nd gen is 4 pin. I recall others mentioned the 1st gen will display an error code but I dont know if you can clear the check engine light from the menu. I have never had a 1st gen but I would bet there is a port...check this area

Yes you can read and clear fault codes in the diag menu on the 1st gen. You flip the switch to the on position and it clears the codes. I had to do it after the flash to clear the 9 codes that come with it

This manual looks like an older one. I have the 2021. It's a 6 pin red connector. Secondly if I bought a scanner can the fault codes be cleared or only observed

Depends on the scan tool you use to be able to see a live data stream, but any OBD2 scanner will read and clear the codes. The 6-pin is used on the Euro5 operating systems.
