Yamaha’s Dark Side of Japan platform just got a lot darker (or florescent, depending on where you look), as the company unveiled one of the surprises of the EICMA Show in Milan, the MT-10.
This is the first four-cylinder machine in the MT (branded FZ in the U.S.), line-up, and is a return to the ethos of the extremely popular FZ1 machine, a nakedbike that borrowed its powerplant from the YZF-R1. FIRST LOOK: Yamaha MT-10 - Cycle News
Me? I think this is gorgeous! Purposeful. Stout. You?
The MT-10 is exactly what I thought Yamaha should do. I posted that a while ago. Seems a little edgey for older riders and not as touring oriented as the last FZ-1. Not quite the way I hoped it would turn out.
^Agreed! They should have kept the lines from the previous generation of the FZ-1s! I miss my FZ-1, but am also happy with my newer FZ-09. I want to hear what a FZ-10 sounds like with a Toce exhaust!
Yamaha will sell the simple brushed-aluminum-tank version alongside a special 60th Anniversary special in the familiar bumblebee scheme.
I really hate that fake air scopes on MT (FZ)-09 and I could use 1L more of gasoline...
that bike needs black rims, imo. Whats up with the Neon green? or is it yellow? idk.
The blue one is nice. I have to get used to the headlights though.
The FZ09 is pretty much all paid off now. Won't mind keeping it and adding few goodies to make it a "FJ09" for longer weekend ride. Newly single... I'll be riding 1up for quite some time anyway!
I read that eventually the MT10 will make its way here. The price probably 10k I would assume. (seeing its 9999 euros over there) as to when idk, a year (anything shorter than that they could risk it flopping) only think that gives me hope would be looking at what Kawasaki did with the z800.
I would like to say it took them about 2 years for it to work its way here.
another thing to add is that up until recently naked bikes were not as a popular look in the US.
Out of curiousity, for those of you who'd sell your FZ to buy the 10, why'd you buy the 09 to begin with if a naked inline 4 is what you really wanted? There are other options on the market, including the MT's closest competitor the Z1000.
The main reason the z1000 nor the gsx-s1000 interested me was because they're traditional inline fours. The reason the MT-10 is appealing is mostly for the crossplane motor, and the fact that the chassis and suspension is straight from the new R1. True sportbike capability with upright ergos, and an awesome electronics suite.
Anyone else see the front turn signals being snapped off in the 1st 24 hours by simply walking around the bike or attempting to cover it?
