Has anyone changed the chain and sprocket size and teeth? If so what brand? thinking about vortex aluminum coated sprockets and chain from sportbike track gear. what say you?

I just switched to a 15t front and it’s bloody amazing ! No sure what brands tbh I just got my local Yamaha dealership to do it though I think I remember seeing the front sprocket saying something about tenere on the paperwork but idk .

Either way the added torque is amazing and so much fun IMO .
Any less than desirable highway cruising changes? (couple hundred more rpm maybe?)

Resurrecting an old thread, forgive me Admins

I've been trying to get down and dirty, trying to Really clean my bike.
I noticed this whilst endeavouring to remove as much grime as possible.
There are a couple of them, but I can push down relatively lightly and they straighten out, and I do mean lightly. They also straighten around the sprockets.
Is this normal ? How much life can I expect ?
Almost 12,000 mi. on the chain. Slack is what it should be. Not too tight, just right.
Obviously I've been taking my own advice and riding more and worrying less.

Dropping to a 520 chain is fine (MotoGp and WSB run 520!) as long as it is the best DID, EK, RK, Renthal, etc make.

Do not go with aluminum sprockets no matter what hard anodized finish they tout! The weight savings realized with a 520 helping acceleration is enough!

And a 16T x 47T combo is great on a CP3, as they love to review! You can reuse the front nut and rear sprocket nuts if they're in good shape and you're careful.

BTW, I'm on my 4th chain (photos of current EK ZVMX 525 steel Superlite 16/47 with my own chain oiler setup...

Another way to check if the chain has stretched beyond its limits is to go to the middle of the sprocket like above at 3 o’clock and try to pull the chain away from the sprocket and if you can see more than half a sprocket tooth then you can be sure the chain is buggered. The front sprocket will be probably pretty hooked and making noises by then anyway

Actually, the front sprocket usually wears the least, it's the rear that gets "hooked" first. Checking lift off the rear sprocket is difficult to accurately determine.

9 times out of 10 kinking links getting stiffer and more numerous is a sure and readily discernible sign your chain will soon be toast.

Even though its not anywhere near as powerful as many older and newer rockets ships, I've found the FZ, FJ, Tracer & T9 CP3 series to be unusually hard on chains.

Maybe the snappy power pulses of the CP3 triple piston - crank timing, and/or the swing arm geometry, I'm not sure.

The modern Triumph triples aren't known for this issue, as they have there own somewhat funky crank timing; though just last year they made a surprising change to the overlap and timing. Likely to meet the latest 5+ emission regs...

It’ll get cleaned when I change the tyre. I got some of those pretty mt09 wheel stickers and a bunch of crap from AliExpress right after I bought it waiting to go on. Another bike has filled its place of garage queen for now locked up in the shed. I’ll get back to it. Or clean it when sell it The chain is fine and I’m wanting to move the rear tyre far back as possible so I’ll do that at the same time. I do care about my bike just not interested in outside appearances. You should see my nose hairs 🤪

I guess a light weight rear sprocket could wear faster than a front. I don’t lube my xo chain. Just a bit of wd40 to stop rust. I agree with 2and3 on the thumper pulse though the chain thing is definitely same as my experience. I did the 520 conversion on a few sport bikes just because it was supposed to be an upgrade but I’ll use 525 from now on seeing how much longer they last. And lastly I admire how clean you guys can keep your bikes. I really love buying presents for my babies but I don’t go cleaning them so much only rarely will I clean a wheel. Maybe one day I’ll have a indoor garage but I don’t really do any hose work or wash up or anything like that either. I do other stuff like falling off roofs
