Hello, i have a 2014 MT09, i know its faults are that the CCT can fail, i suspect its that. I was riding today, and mid ride it just started abnormally knocking, literally louder than the exhaust. I suspect (and hope) its only the CCT, anyone know any way u could diagnose if its that? I will try to attach an video. It sounds like a rod knock but it can turn on and not losing power. Thanks

Edit: here is a video of it:

So you get the noise cranking it over without starting.
Did you ride it home after the noise started?
How many miles?
Is it the original CCT?
I get the noise when starting and when im just “spinning” it like in thr video, i have only done it thr second it happened and only 1 time for video, no i didnt ride it home i walked it home hahah… and yes original CCT with 29k kilometers

Something doesn't look right with the chain guide, upper left?? (I think it's the chain guide but can be wrong)
The chain outer plates show wear, so something is pushing the chain out of alignment also. The outer plates are supposed to guide the chain around the sprockets.

In addition to replacing the CCT, drain the oil & filter, and look carefully for metal (small amount grinded off in photo).
The noise seems more than just a chain at the slow RPM of cranking over (but not starting the engine). Does anyone think he may have skipped a tooth, timing off, valves contacting piston?
As noted previously, a careful confirmation of cam chain timing would establish that.
As you dig in, more clarity will occur for what may be damaged, and what repairs are needed.

I think that might be a major problem. Was there any rattling around 4000 rpm anytime prior to the knocking occuring?
I wouldn't turn it over anymore until you have checked that cam timing is correct. If it's not, you'll have to take the head off to check for bent valves. It'll also need a new cam chain, guides and tensioner. Also check the sprockets for damage.

I have a feeling it did skip a tooth, but when it happened the bike was running perfectly still and ot didnt lose power

There maybe a terminology issue here. No knocking is normal in an engine. Knocking usually refers to a regular (rev related) lower pitched sound. Cam tensioner noise is normally referred to as a rattle. Clutches can also rattle, ie dry clutch Ducatis.

Mechanic came, its the cct. He put a rod in the automatic one tirned it on and no knocking. Ape cct coming, im only worried about if it skipped a tooth, or if the chain is damaged.
