Hey guys, I'm struggling to decide which pipe to get out of yoshimura or carbon akraprovic pipe. I used to have an fz6r with a delkevic pipe on it and it was obnoxiously loud. I have tried to find people around me with those pipes so I can hear how loud they really are. So my question to you guys is, if you have heard both of them in person, is either of them 'too' loud?(I'll let too loud be to your digression) (Also I have looked at YT videos but they really don't give me a good idea of the overall volume of the pipes)
I've owned both the Yoshimura AT2 and Akrapovic Carbon on my 2021 MT09 SP. I am currently back to the "redesigned" Yoshimura AT2 system. The Akrapovic isn't "too loud" with or without the db insert in my opinion. The Yoshimura leans more to the "too loud" spectrum without the db insert but is comparable to the Akrapovic with it installed.

My super accurate exhaust loudness scale 1 to 10. 1=stock exhaust/10=straight open headers

Stock = 1

  • Akrapovic with db insert = 5
  • Akrapovic without db insert = 5.5

  • Yoshimura with db insert = 5.5
  • Yoshimura without db insert = 7.5

I can communicate with my riding buddies through our Bluetooth comms easily and clearly with either but without the db insert on the Yoshi, the exhaust will sometimes bleed through to the other riders speakers when I'm accelerating hard.

I believe the location of the exhaust outlet plays a part in how loud it seems to the rider. The Akra exits way back towards the rear of the bike whereas the Yoshi exits right by the riders right foot. The loudness might be different to someone standing on a sidewalk hearing you drive by.

Awesome, thank you for such a detailed reply! I think I'll go with the Akra since its a bit cheaper and i like the look of it. Is there any reason your back to using the yoshi now? Again, really appreciate the detailed reply!

I just prefer the look of the Yoshi but the Akra is a great system and I'd argue that it's build quality is still better than the Yoshi. Really can't go wrong with either.

what Is the difference between the GYA8891T and the GYA8893T please?

are they exactly the same system in terms of looks?
I’m assuming that the 8891T has the stainless headers and the 8893T had the Ti headers and that the rest of the components are exactly the same ?

I’m assuming they will sound exactly the same but am thinking that the SS headers going to a Ti pipe may look odd (although I am just being fussy here I think)

the 93 is all titanium the 91only the silencer is ti the rest is stainless , they look the same

titanium usually gives a slightly different sound that would hard to tell if not side by side

Thanks - I am now in a position to decide what exhaust to buy and will probably place an order in the next 2 weeks

not bothered about weight of the exhaust, just how it looks and sounds (HP increase is always a bonus)

Arrow - high mount
SC project - S1
Spark - grid-O racing in Ti or SS

SC is the lowest price and the Spark Ti is more than double (for where I am in world)
The arrow is almost the same price as the full Ti spark

my main gripe with the spark is that the headers of the arrow and the SC project follow the lines of the bike nicely, but the spark just comes down at a right angle and makes the headers look horrible( see pics below)

I know it’s subjective but what should I get ? (A tune is there regardless of system)

may the same time I want an air filter so not sure what would be the easiest to maintain - K&N, Sprint, or DNA?
Anyone else wishes to comment in addition to #vcyclenut would be welcome

Have been waiting 9 months to get to this stage so am nearly ready to place an order

yes you should get a good ecu flash, I dont know who to recommend to you over there but without it the bike is going to develop some spots where it runs poorly
there is a very good tuner here that the semi-pro bikers use and all the other mechanics recommend him as well - woolich package, re-map etc etc

Exhaust choice - best for sound and looks?
SC project, Arrow or Spark

Filter choice - best for ease of maintenance ?
K&N, DNA, or Sprint

I ordered an HP5 over a month ago because I listened to the recordings and the HP5 without the mid-pipe muffler sounded the best - worth having a good subwoofer to hear how it sounds. (1) Yamaha MT-09 2021 💥 Full Dominator Exhaust 🔥 Sound Test & Dyno 🔊 Pure Sound 🎧 HQ Sound 🇵🇱 ⚡ FZ-09 - YouTube

Dominator don't ship to HK so I got it via the official reseller, and unfortunately that is slow. I ordered it August 9 and it has only just started its journey to me :-( So I don't yet know if I made the right choice.

I don't mind re-oiling so I got the DNA - it seems to have made very little difference - it's entirely subjective but the intake noise has changed and the engine seems to be smoother.

thanks -

sorry for all the questions - but there are only 6x MT09 come into dubai every season I think so we can’t see or hear any of the mods/exhausts etc first hand

I’m leaning towards the Spark ti as over here is it about US$ 150 more - the very very small clip of the sound on the spark video sounds very deep so I like it

was just wondering how comparable the sound of the arrow was with the spark

I will see if I can order the spring filter to dubai

Hi guys,

I’m new here and I don’t know if someone else has already asked the same thing or not.

I have the 2021 MT09 and have already put 2000km on it. I’m looking to put a full system on it, but only available full system is from Akrapovich. I really don’t like how they made the system with the muffler installed that high so I need to look for other options. I would like to have something similar to the older models where the muffler is under.
Do you know about any other brands that have realesed anything for the 2021 MT09?
Yoshimura AT2 finally available after waiting almost a year. I had a yosh r77 full system on my '18 mt09 and loved it. Would have picked up the Yosh system for my new '21 mt09 but I picked up a screaming deal on a almost new '18 mt10, going to concentrate my efforts on the big 10 for now. May end up keeping the mt09 also in which case I'll buy this new AT2 system and have it flashed by David at Vcyclenut. They sent me the notice they were back in stock so I'd get 'um while they're hot! Lol

My SC Project S1 comes Friday hopefully. Should have it on the bike this weekend. I'll be looking forward to your testing results since I'll most likely send you out my ECU for the SC flash

Seems SC is shipping them out so my dealer order should ship soon also !

I started looking for an aftermarket exhaust also. earlier this week I had to go through MOT inspection for my car and engaged a conversation with the engineer there regarding various somewhat technical stuff. During the conversation I said to him at the end ”well as long as they don’t MOT bikes we are good”.

he laughed and said to me “oh .. they will!!”. He printed and showed me the directive from the department of transportation of my country which I believe came from the EU. It was an intent to document which he said to me in 1-2 years time he believed, MOT will start applying to bikes.

im puzzled if it is worth it to invest almost 2K (includes tune and filters ) for an aftermarket exhaust when it is guaranteed that will not pass inspection. The fines are high and they don’t have to pull you over to check you. They scan the plates from the cameras and deliver the fine by mail😂
