For the second time the XSR lost all electrical power and died while riding. It seems the battery was not being charged and ran until the battery was completely dead.
The first time it happened the original battery tested bad and I replaced it with a fancy lithium battery.
History: I bought the bike in September with only 1,200 miles on it. This 2020 bike was purchased in January of 2022 so it had been on the showroom floor a long time and it was a garage queen and hadn't been ridden much. I assumed the battery hadn't been maintained. The bike had no mechanical or electrical mods.
With the new battery I proceeded to take the bike on an 1,800 mile 4 day ride without a problem.
End of story? Nope. Last week I took it out for a lunch ride and the bike died 10 miles from home. The battery was completely dead as if it hadn't been charging.
I have an extended warranty and no clue how to fix it so I brought it to a local dealer. They haven't been able to figure it out either. They said the power flickered on once when they replaced the seat, perhaps indicating a short.
I don't know if this is a factor but both times this occurred after I'd put the battery on a trickle charger. I wonder if this could create an issue with the bike's charging system?
Note: I used a smart charger specifically for, and purchased with the, lithium battery.
I'd like to know if anyone else has had this issue and how it was resolved.
Thanks
