a lot of peeps have wondered about the gap between tank and seat- how is it to ride with that? does it matter?

I can see how the seat shape keeps you from sliding back - whats it like for a pillion- would you think about an after market seat- I saw a vid showing that it is a pretty flat frame underneath- is is it a storage area?
