So the Thursday of Easter weekend after work, I spontaneously decided to ride up to the beautiful Oregon Coast. Met a friend of mine who drove down from Seattle at the same time. Left about 3 in the afternoon from Turlock, CA and made it Coos Bay, OR about 1130. Taking many breaks for gas, food, shelter from the abundant liquid sunshine, and to give my poor (now non-existent) tailbone a rest.

Ran into rain going up through Shasta, but amazing storm clouds and awesome mountains more than made up for that. Bought a 50 dollar rain suit from Cycle Gear that worked great! Other than that, I-5 all the way up was nice and boring all the way up.

Stayed at the Mill Casino in Coos Bay (Highly recommended!) saw a kick-ass band, emptied their whiskey cabinet, and won some money. All in all a great time at the bay. Although I wanted to be on my dirt bike sooo bad in the dunes!! Haha

Dropped down on the coast for the way home, absolutely perfect weather! Sunny and 65 all along the coast. Dropped down through the Redwood forest, felt like the planet of Wookies from Star Wars. Absolutely Incredible!! Amazing feeling sitting in a forest of 1,000 year old trees. Makes me extremely thankful and humble that I have the opportunity to own a magnificent machine such as the FZ-09, and travel to these amazing places.

Now have 3,258 miles on the beast and just broke the one month period. Other than needing new tires now it has been awesome!

Who says the One and Only Yamaha FZ-09 can't sport tour?! ;D

Granted I live in Portland, but I just did a few long trips on the coast (one from Depoe Bay up through the north coast range to Washington) and through the coastal mountain range. Beautiful rides. The FZ has it’s obvious stock draw-backs, but as far as I’m concerned it’s a great solo sport-tourer. I would ride it for days on end, although I would probably opt for a comfier seat.

awesome ride! the west coast especially northern cali up through oregon into washington is some of the greatest riding available, just endless miles of ocean/mountain pass/river/canyon riding

You are absolutely correct!! Any stresses I have just disappear when I travel and see what took hundreds of years to create. Just got back from a day ride to Mono Lake. What an amazing place, aside from the wind chill at 9,900 feet it was incredible! That's a great ride. Looking for the next day adventure soon

A few years ago some of us rode the TAT (Trail Across America) which runs from Tenn to the Oregon Coast. We rode all the way across Oregon and when we popped out at Gold Beach (IIRC) the scenery was just amazing... kinda cold after the desert but the ocean and the fog... I'll never forget it. Then we went south thru the Redwoods, how do those trees do it? Then we had to ride the slab all the way back to NM. It's all covered on the adventure riders forum.

Looks like a great ride!

Riding in the big trees is very special!

I rode up to Fortuna May 2 and rode 380 miles around the area on May 3 and then slabbed it back home on 101 on May 4. Was an awesome 1100 mile 3 day ride.
