I would tighten it a tiny bit more and see if that helps. If you immobilized the chain, then you shouldn't have an issue with skipping a tooth. Try that first and report back if it didn't work

    1. I pop off the crankshaft access cap, use a T-handle type socket setup to move the crank only.
    2. I do not want to move the cams up top. The fore and aft shows me the slack in the chain moving the crank only.
    3. I spin the ape's lock-nut back a little, turn in the main bolt in, while moving the crank back and forth until the crank stops moving so freely.
    4. Lock the nut, install the cap, light it up for the ear test.

tighten the cct or the drive chain? my drive chain is what became loose, so I was thinking I would just need to tighten that.

I did immobilize it and the cam chain feels fine. It isn't making any noise now. The drive chain is what is loose.

My drive chain was what became loose. Would I need to do all of this or just tighten my drive chain? The cam chain feels nice and tight.
I'm pretty new to working on my bike, so I am not too confident when it comes to doing things with the camshaft.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Your drive chain has nothing to do with your cam chain. No matter what you did to anything on the engine, it wouldn't affect the slack of your drive chain as your drive sprocket is fixed in place. To add to that, it is not possible to skip a tooth on the drive chain (in the way that I believe you are thinking), that would always sort itself out once you went for a ride (all slack generally moves to the bottom of the chain rotation).
It's possible that you just started noticing your drive chain noise a little more now that the CCT tick is gone. It's nothing to be alarmed about, it's probably just set to factory spec which most people will agree is too tight. Adjust the chain slack to ~1". There is a diagram in the owner's manual on how to do this. Be sure to keep the rear sprocket aligned when doing this. Most of the time it is good enough to eye ball it, but if you are concerned about alignment like I was, you can pick up this tool: https://www.amazon.com/Motion-Pro-08...089DTZTYNM2BZQ

Let me know if that clears things up or if you have any other questions.

When you started telling me to reopen the crank I got a little confused. I'm not too sure why my drive chain got so loose, so I just wanted to know if it had anything to do with installing the cct. I didn't think it did, but better safe than sorry. I am going to tighten my chain now, so hopefully that will be the end of it. Thanks for the quick help.

Don't tighten your chain to factory spec. 20mm slack with the wheel off the floor is good.

Going to attempt the APE CCT install this evening.
Appreciate all the info in this thread.

Bike has 18,000 + miles on it.
OEM CCT finally started making a racket.
    Nasty sound.
Will be good to have that gone!

    Cheers

Is there a video out there where I can watch it being done? I'd feel more confident in seeing it done than reading through all the threads. Going to be attempting this during the first of next week. Any help will be great.
