Question about stock front preload suspension

I'm playing around with my 2014 stock front fork suspension and noticed there is preload and rebound only.

I've adjusted the rebound to my liking but the preload for both the left and right fork are maxed out (meaning all the way dialed in). We all know the stock front suspension is squishy so this is why my friend told me to max it out at the front. Is there any negatives to this?

Sporkbike magazine says that you should have 2 rings showing for the preload meaning i should dial it back out a little.

I would think having the maxed out preload on the stock suspension would provide a more stable front end. What happens if it is too stiff?

It all depends how much you weigh and what your sag numbers are. Its all pointless without that. You should be shooting for a specific sag #,

The bike is designed with max preload allowed. I have never bothered with sag to set my suspension up.....others swear by it and thats fine....I know what works for me I have two rings showing on my preload...cant remember what rebound I have...my weight is around 86 kilos rising up to around 90 kilos.....depending on how much chocolate I eat that week. I ride country roads with lots of twisty bits with no major problems with the settings. I ride to my abilities so that might have some impact also, having thrown two Busa's down the road in the past, I have tended to curb my enthusiasm in the corners a tad.

Set the preload so that you have around 40 - 45mm sag with you on the bike. Maxing things out is what we did way back in the day when suspension meant waiting for the crash.
