The only reason I ask is the 'new' 2017 comfort seat from Yamaha looks pretty good.
I've tried to compare part numbers for seat, sub frame, latch bracket and latch for the different model years, and I cannot find a USA dealer with the 2017 FZ09 parts fiche. Using the link to an Australian dealer from the forum, I compared the part numbers for my 2015 model with the 2015 MT09, and they were the same worldwide, which would make sense.
So, looking at the relevant part numbers for the 2017 MT09, the first three digits are different than prior years. Yamaha uses the first three digits to designate the model on which that part was first used, so If I were a betting man, I would bet the seats are not interchangeable.
Hopefully someone will prove me wrong. Anyone take his/her older model to a local dealer who has a 2017 FZ09 in stock and tried to swap seats? TIA
Throwing this out there but why not go to a dealer and ask if you can see if it will work? I also just saw on here someone has a new and old FZ so they should try also. If the stock fits from a new FZ on an old one then it should work no problem. I like the comfort seat also.
I have both models now & just swaped seats & they both interchange with each other.the seat goes on with about the same effort but is a bit more difficult to remove but nothing major & it does look factory

Thanks Gunner. That's what I was hoping. I originally posed the question on a weekend, and-except for Harley dealers-no dealers are open on weekends around here.
Just Googled them....$408.00 for something that should have been on the original bike and amounts to bit of foam and plastic. Oh well I suppose they have to finance the Fukushima ****up...er cleanup somehow.
Just an FYI...I decided to bite the bullet and order the seat from the above link for my 2016 FZ.....full report when I get it, hehe. :icon_thumbright:
Looking on the Yamaha UK website and comparing accessory seats between the 2016 and 2017 MT-09's.
They show the same part number for the "Flat Seat - Vintage Look P/N: 1RC-247C0-31-00" and the "Flat Seat P/N: 1RC-247C0-41-00" for both 2016 & 2017 bikes.
Thanks Rocky. That's kind of what I thought. I wonder if once Yamaha sells all their 2014-16 Comfort seats they revise their 2017 Comfort seat description to say it will fit all model years...
Well I pulled the trigger also! I love the way this seat looks compared to the other sofa like seats. I like that it's still sporty looking yet will be slightly more comfortable and get rid of forward slide.
I actually really like the way the stock seat looks. Very minimalist. I just wish it had a tiny bit more padding where it counts. A big hump on the passenger section is not my cup of tea.
without riding it yet I can't give a good review. but it does fit. it doesnt slide you forward into the tank either. it has softer foam though for sure, and it's wider by tank base
When you get it, give a little review. Like to hear different points of view. Especially about if the slope into the tank had been addressed with this seat.
So far the seat looks great on these posts......we will see if it will take the place of my Sargent or not!
