    2014 fz09 to 2016

Hey guys just bought my 2014 and read that with the savings I should make it as good as a '16. What do I need to do to make it as good as a new '16? Also, I'm looking at other things to get (fender eliminator, radiator cover, wind screen). Any suggestions on affordable brand names here? I have stuff in my amazon cart but looking for decent quality for decent price. Mainly trying to get this bike up to date to a '16 then add more after that.

Welcome! Being a fellow '14 owner myself, I think that you made the right choice. Depending on your budget, if you're going to make some improvements you can easily upgrade way beyond what the '16 would be.

Shock is first on the list really. For budget-friendly the ZX6RR (ideal), ZX-10R or even ZX-6R shocks would all be improvements over the FZ stock shock of any year. If you are looking to spend more, you can get an Ohlins shock (they can be had packaged with the Andreani forks for very reasonably), or if you want top of the line Stoltec has the Penskes.

Flash would be next, I had mine done by vcyclenut and couldn't be happier

Forks/Springs: Stoltec has a FPK with appropriate springs that will help the front end quite a bit. The andreani's can be had for a good price packaged with Ohlins shock, and can be made to be quite good with pattonme's upgrades.

I got my fender eliminator kit on eBay, packaged with LED turn signals all around. I'm happy with it: FZ 09 FZ-09 MT09 MT-09 Yamaha Fender eliminator Tail Tidy 2014 2015 4T/S RED | eBay

How far you wanna go is up to you, other things like LED headlight upgrade, exhaust, etc are nice to have with the money saved, I opted for all of that and ended up about even with what I would have paid for a new model but with way more of a bike. Not much difference between a 14 and a 16. Computer flash, different oil pan, and different colored wheels and tank. Comparing a 14 to a 17 is a bit different.
As for mods, shock, seat, and ecu flash with or without an exhaust should top your list.

Does anyone else think the little yellow triangles on the cars mirrors are cool when they light up for you?

    Not particularly, lol!

If you were talking more about the styling side of things, and you are dead set on the look of the '17 (headlight, etc) then you would probably be better off with the '17. The 2016 has the same look including radiator/covers as the '14 AFAIK. Regardless, you won't get any of the value of the cosmetic bits added to a '14 like you do on performance parts. When the parts become available, go ahead and price them out. I have a good feeling you won't be feeling too optimistic about it, but that's just a guess.
