    2016 Fz 09

I'm in the market for a new motorcycle. Everything I'm looking for seems to fit perfectly in the Fz09! I've read review after review after review and they all lead to this. My concerns are:
    1) is the suspension really as bad as everyone says? I'm 6'3" 280lbs and according to reviews, it seems the bike will suck with me riding. Is it really super soft or just people hating on it cause of wheelies and wanting to race it? Is it good for just normal riding with occasional hard riding?
    2) how is the bike on the highway? I know it's a naked bike and wind blast will be bad, but is it decent with a wind screen or bug catcher?
    3) with the 2017 coming out in February, should I wait for that bike and spend the extra $600! I don't like the abs option but is it worth the sacrifice?

Thanks for any input you guys have!

    Hi.
I would go for a used first gen model. I bought a 2014 with 3000 miles for almost half of what a 2017 would have cost. Also there are a lot of good deals on new 15's and 16's for a lot less than the 2017.

I got a 2016 last month and im glad i did. I only got to put 180 miles on it being that im in NY, but for the deal i got, plus with the 2017s going up in price (and weight) im happy with my decision. Im about 200lbs and the suspension does feel on the soft side, but its a comfy kind of soft and not terrible. Either way i will be upgrading the suspension in the future. If you can get a deal on the 2016 i say go for it!

Just look at the 09 as a good value bike with a great engine that with a little money spent will be a great bike with a great engine that's still excellent value.

A few friendly tweaks and it works great as a long-distance touring rig.

How hard you ride is the main factor in how satisfied you will be with the suspension, but since your weight is well above average, my guess is you will want to upgrade it.
Some people are bothered by wind blast more than others. I didn't mind it up to about 80, but I got a Puig touring screen anyway (for looks and a slight improvement in aerodynamic drag). If you really want to avoid it, given your height, you will need a very big sail up front.

Most of my riding will be around town with a small fraction on highway from different areas of town to others! I'm not looking for something for major wind protection just basic. As far as suspension, I'm concerned it will be too soft and make riding unbearable especially around the rough roads?!

For your size it will be bouncy unless you crank it and then it will just be too harsh. Like Desert Rat said if you're not a hard rider, you may be able to find a happy medium for rideability but you won't be able to dive into corners too hard without it squirming around underneath you.

im 240 lbs and with the forks a few turns away from fully cranked, I found it to be fine..not an aggressive rider though...just an fyi I feel you are a good candidate for a ninja 1000

I am actually in a similar position as you op. Weighing the options of going used and having to do upgrades or wait it out and get brand new with some improvements and the color choice. Going the used route or trying to get some of these dealers soon to be old stock does not seem to be going well. No one seems to want to take my money $$ !!
