    I have a 2014 and it's the best bike I have owned.
    1) I have had no issues with the suspension, but I'm 5'5" at 115 lbs. You may very well want to upgrade the suspension.
    2) I've had no issues with highway riding
    3) I know people say to buy used, but you can find a new old stock bike for $6500-7000 so I would go that route and have a zero mile bike with a warranty that you can break in yourself

Based on your size, you may not love this bike. It's small. You may want to explore that Ninja 1000 suggestion. You can get good deals on them.

if you pause the video at the 0:34 second mark,

you can see this is a big guy,

but still stays on the FZ09 the whole time,

I put a Penske shock on mine, and want to change out the front suspension,

this is the coolest bike I've owned....

The suspension is OK....not sportsbike quality but far from the worst I have known. The trouble is that the engine encourages fast riding and the suspension is the limiting factor.

I find that the bike is OK naked but the genuine Yamaha fly screen is good for triple figure speeds. A larger screen causes all sorts of buffeting and wind noise. And they mostly look shit.

The 9 is a great fun machina with huge character.

    1) is the suspension really as bad as everyone says? I'm 6'3" 280lbs and according to reviews, it seems the bike will suck with me riding. Is it really super soft or just people hating on it cause of wheelies and wanting to race it? Is it good for just normal riding with occasional hard riding?
    2) how is the bike on the highway? I know it's a naked bike and wind blast will be bad, but is it decent with a wind screen or bug catcher?
    3) with the 2017 coming out in February, should I wait for that bike and spend the extra $600! I don't like the abs option but is it worth the sacrifice?

Thanks for any input you guys have!
so much depends on how you ride it and what you want out of the bike. I am 6'5" and 240#. I've done nothing to the suspension. I've set mine up as a mild adventure bike and it works fantastic for that. I've ridden 6-hours one-way down the slabs and it did fine as it is configured now.

I'm about to finish a homemade 2" riser and then I'll do just that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Why? FZ-09 is more than capable. I'm 6'7" 265 lbs and the 09 has to be the most comfortable, fun, capable bike I've owned yet.

OP, at your weight, NO suspension will be right. That's coming from one big guy to another. As others have mentioned, how much it's 'not right' largely depends on what you're trying to get out of the bike. But after you've ridden a bike where the suspension is set up for you.....dang. Nothing like it.

One thing to keep in mind with this bike... It's cheap for a reason. Yes, the suspension is crap and is obviously one area where they saved money. But the way I look at it is that, at our size, you have to do the suspension anyway, so this bike saves you a buck or two. I mean, why spend money on a bike that comes with better stuff if you just have to rip it out anyway?

Thanks for all the replies and info. After looking at the other bikes I was considering the Fz 09 is what I want. I like the street triple but don't wanna pay $10k. And unless the z900 comes out with ridiculous reviews, the Fz 09 will be my next bike in my stable! Save up a few for down payment and some accessories then it'll be mine!

I've got you all beat....6'3" weighing in at 305....The fz is more than roomy and is a stellar choice once you upgrade the suspension....I had a Duke 690 and while it was fun it vibed too much on the interstate....If I want to go long distance I jump on the HOG....I still ride the fz 4-5 hours at a time tho.....
