FZ-09 cylinders, plated or sleeved?

    FZ-09 cylinders, plated or sleeved?

    Just wondering if anyone knew whether the -09 has nicasil plated or sleeved cylinders, I haven't read any where about this...just curious...Mark

    Can't remember which magazine article had it, but they referred to the plated cylinder.

    Stuart, I would imagine that would be the case for a light wt. modern engine but I hadn't found any mention of it. I'd prefer the plated bores as they seem to be really tough and last forever, Mark

    Hey Mark- I found the reference in a Rider review- 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 First Ride Review

    "Plated cylinders, forged aluminum pistons and cylinders offset by 5mm reduce friction and boost torque, which is said to be 65 lb-ft at the crank."

    Thanks Stuart, all the good technology, plated bores, forged pistons and offset cylinder...should be one tough little engine. Mark
