Can't decide on action camera model or brand

I would like a good camera for mounting to my helmet. I read some bad things about hero 5 and I don't know what would work best. All weather and long battery life.
    Any suggestions?

I personally have 2 Sony as20. Hell of a lot cheaper money wise than other options and i am very pleased. Video quality and battery life is great too.

I would say the FDRX3000 is the best with it's optical stabilization at 4k 30fps. No other action cams have it. Makes your video's look like you're using a gimbal. All others have electronic stabilization (doesn't work as well, especially at night).

If you value 4k 60fps though, the latest from YI might be the ticket for you (no optical stabilization though, just electronic).

If you decide to stick with gopros hero5, they're 350 right now in best buy. The Yi is 340, the Sony fluctuates from 350-400 frequently (so just wait for it to drop to 350).

Here's some comparison videos i did recently:

I'll weigh in on the cheap ones and give a shout out to my little Akaso EK7000. Cheap, no frills but the 1080p/60 looks damn good. For 80 bucks, hard to beat. And it has withstood months of vibration on my GPZ and some pretty stupid speeds. So the quality is not an issue for me thus far. But the more expensive cameras do offer a little more in the way of stabilization, as mentioned, and 30fps 4k video. This Akaso does 4k but at 25fps.

I'm using a Garmin Virb Elite. While it doesn't have the craziest resolution, it will do 720p @ 60fps, with about 6 hour battery life.

The reason I chose it over a GoPro, Sony, or chinese knock-off (which have great reviews btw) was the built-in GPS that syncs data to the video, and the waterproof design. With the GoPro, you have to put the camera in a case to make it waterproof, which I didn't like. There's an optional waterproof case that will allow the camera to be submerged up to 60 meters, but it can handle up to 3 meters without it. Perfect for riding, should it start to rain.

By the way, the Sony also has GPS (I haven't messed around with this feature too much though). As for the gopro, the hero5's are already waterproof and doesn't need a case and I think they have gps too if I recall correctly.

I have a GoPro Hero 3+ (maybe $200) with the battery eliminator (about $35) and a 20,000mAh battery from Anker ($45).

GoPro batteries are 1180mAh and last about 1.5 hours, so 20,000/1180 = 17 batteries worth of juice and 25 hours of recording time.

I keep the battery in my jacket pocket. The best thing is it has dual ports so I charge my phone on the go as well
