Good job Christmas, you delivered(Imgr link)! Just installed my OEM lower engine guards that I was gifted, thought ya'll might like some pics of the final look in terms of width from the top/side/front.
Honestly when you ar eputting them on it seems like they are going to be so huge and noticeable, but after the install they seem to blend in fairly well. Also, seems like they would do a good job for a tip over or slow fall, but isn't going to hold up in a serious full-speed crash (But what would really?)
Install took 30 mins max, mostly because I kept forgetting the little washers while installing haha.
I found these pictures of an engine for sale on ebay a while back. It looks like the engine is out of a crashed bike, which had a set of Yamaha engine case guards installed.
It looks like the case guards did their job to protect the engine cases.
Yamaha engine protectors/sliders, any good?
I have a set of the Yamaha engine case guards on my FZ-09, they were free because my dealer does this in store bonus bucks. When I bought my 09, I earned enough bonus bucks to pay for the case guards.
The best price you will find for a kit with engine case guards, frame sliders and F/R axle sliders, is the T-Rex kit. Everything for $289.95, which is hard to beat.

Far too expensive in my opinion - I know they can save some damage, but in the UK they are something like £170. Big-time mark up - probably cost about £20 to make. Yamaha need to reward people who have their bikes by better pricing on crash protection accessories.
Yes the Yamaha case guards are not cheap, $236.99 for the XSR900 version.
You can save a little on the FZ-09/FJ-09 version, but no logo, for $205.99.
I would have gone with the T-Rex kit, but they didn't come out with there FZ-09 kit for almost a year after I pickup up my bike.
So at the time, the Yamaha ones where one of the less expensive case guards. If you compared them to the other ones like, WoodCraft $333, GB Racing $340 and R&G Racing $246.
Those ones will fit the XSR900 as well, so I am not sure why the same site only lists the GB Racing $340 and Sato Racing $200 ???

Luckily I did not buy them but received them as a gift, but I think I would have purchased them over the T-rex as I like the OEM part's look more. I didn't know about the FZ ones working for the XSR otherwise I would have considered them, I don't really care if they have ANOTHER XSR logo haha.
I did get the Trex frame sliders and will be adding those soon to add to the tip-over protection. I think between the two I should be reasonably protected.
They definitely worth it, saved my bike when that truck driver opened his door on my shoulder.
