I got rear-ended on the Zuma one day by a car doing about 40. I was stopped at the time waiting to turn, brake and turn signals on. I'd wear it too!

If some cage driving t wat can't see a modern headlight searing the crap out of his retinas, or even your LED brake light, why do you think he'll see your glowing jacket?
    Although I bet he'd see a 12 gauge.
    It's all about perceived threat.

It's about height. If you notice, car manufacturers put the third stop lamp up high on vehicles; the common name being "high-mounted stop lamp".

I wonder if too much light will cause target fixation for cagers and turn you into more of a target? than something to avoid?

There are a few videos in youtube where motorcycle cops get run down in their hi vis gear, with the lights flashing on their bikes.

I think the big thing is to not assume you'll automatically be seen, just because you've dressed head to toe in incandescent yellow or with one of these LED jackets.

When I was a bike cop, no one pulled out of intersections on me. I wonder why?

Ridiculous. We shouldn't need to go out of the way get peoples attention. If I get rear ended because someone didn't see my stock, unmodified tail light I'll sue.

I'd rather not take the chance in getting seriously hurt or killed just for the sake of suing someone even when they're in the wrong. We shouldn't need to go out of our way but we have to.

So true, if I see a bike cop, it's the bike and the cop I see first, not his hi viz gear. And come to think of it, the only time I see a Motorcycle Police Officer in hi viz gear, is when he is off his bike and directing traffic, or when he has his bike parked at his radar trap. lol

Our Motorcycle Police where red jackets while riding, not the hi viz yellow. They still ride the classic Harley's, but also have new BMW's.
