    Sportbike Insurance Update

Just got my annual insurance bill for my new FZ-10. At age 67 with a perfect driving record, it was $1283. I expected it to go up for the -10, but was pretty shocked. Same insurance on the -09 $450. Called my agent and he too was blown away. He called back within the hour and asked me how $340/year for top coverage sounded. After I said hell yes, he told me it was with Progressive. He had called my present company, Dairyland, and asked them what the deal was. He told them riders with my status were getting full coverage on $25k Harleys for $300/year. They told him, yup, we don't like sportbikes very much.

Anybody else have Dairyland? I hope not.

You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

This is weird because it's the opposite for me and I live just down the road from you. I'm 59/clear record/two bikes thru Dairyland with H.O.G. membership. Both bikes have:
    $100/300k rider/pass liability
    $100/300k Unin/under in
    $2k medical
    $250 deduct collision
    $100 deduct comp
    OEM part replacement
    Roadside asst
$7500 add equip H-D/$5k on FZ
I pay $455.44/yr on both bikes. Damn insurance companies..

I think insurance companies just pull numbers out there ass hoping to catch the guy who blindly accepts it .. my first quote for my 09 was $3100 .... I know I'm young at only 28 and only been riding street for 4 years but that is outrageous . After some searching I was able to get it down to $1050 for full coverage from a different company

    Troop,

The only thing I can figure is they put you in the Harley rider group, where I'm sportbike only. Maybe I should buy an old HD for a premium reduction.

Just be aware....Progressive is called progressive because the premiums will progressively go up.

I'm paying $544 for 2 years of full coverage w/ $1 million civil liability, roadside asst, etc, though my deductibles are at $500 each (I figure if I have any damage less than $500, I'd just fix it myself and not take the rate hike).
I'm 41 with (car) claims in my younger years (clear now). I've had my moto licence for 4 years, though I have been driving for 22 years.
I am in Canada, so there may be different policies/rules in effect.
I went through an insurance broker which got me a good rate. The insurance company I'm with is the same I had for my supermotos (loyalty rate?).

I had Progressive and was paying $1300/yr for (3) bikes: FZ-09, WR250X and GSX-S1000...as I sold the WR, the prices crept up. As I sold the FZ, what I was once paying $583/yr for the Gixxus suddenly went up to $850/yr. Bye bye Progressive...switched over to Allied.

Opposite here too. Was with Geico, they wanted almost 4x more than Dairyland. Ridiculous.

An extra $833 for another 155cc? They REALLY don't like "sportsbikes". Which it isn't.
