Just knocked up this polished alloy blanking plate / brake resevoir bracket. I'm a bit concerned that it looks a bit too diy. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

i think it would look really good if you color matched with the subframe

It looks a bit self-made but not in a bad way! I think its nicely made!

You could color it black as Yotal says. It would hide it quite well

I like it also also but echo as well their response, if you think it stands out to much hit it with black spray paint.

It looks good man, agreed on the painting it black though, personally I'd bend or change the way the brake reservoir is attached so that it's a bit hidden behind the bracket.

I tend to agree, perhaps a bit too much aluminium. I might try making a second oval plate, in a slightly smaller size and paint that black, bolt it on top of this one to just leave an alloy border showing. I've got plenty of scrap metal so it's no problem. I really enjoy tinkering with the bike

Nicely done. It seems like I'm a lone voice but I like the alloy - not enough of it IMO!

I have a black mudguard and would prefer the silver, I wish the exhaust was steel, well, you get the picture...

Nicely cut. I love making stuff like this myself. My 2 cents - minimize. Assuming the plate you used is thick enough, for the 2 hole bit that connects to the frame, maybe make it a kind of dogbone shape or just knock down the overall size a little. Just looks a touch over sized to me. Still, looks pretty good as is, but you asked for a critique ;-) If you're going to paint it try to find something that matches the texture of the frame, like a semi-crinkle. Make sure you use the right stuff to prime it. Raw aluminum can be paint resistant. If you're not going to paint it I would still consider clear coating it to match the other plain aluminum bits on the bike as well as keeping it looking good down the road. Please keep making stuff and posting pictures so we can steal your ideas.

I ended up making an additional, smaller plate and painted it black. I used etch primer cos I already had a can of that from making my tail tidy. I'll post some pics once I've fitted them to the bike.
